Ok XLF members i'm asking for your help on this one! I have been thinking real hard about starting to wear a helmet for the first time. I currently have an HJC full face and think it might be to hot for summer riding, so does anyone have any suggestions on an half helmet? I have worn the fullface only a couple times, and am now thinking about wearing a helmet full time, can anyone give me some suggestions on what kind? I know it all depends on what the rider feels more comfortable with, but what does the majority of the members here like? Thanks in advance for all your replies!!

Halfies are definitely cooler and most definitely louder. If you don't have a windshield it will turn into a parachute at around 65 mph. Still better than wearing no helmet at all.

carbonfiberhelmets.com Their non DOT pass all of the DOT test except the punchure test. I'm fine with that as I don't plan on sliding head first into a 2" nail. Their DOT version is pricey but these helmets are very light weight, strong and a lot thiner than most DOT. My head is skinny so the normal half looks silly on me. These have a lot less wind lift, too.

I wear a half helmet (Simpson) every time I ride. Broken legs, arms, etc. will heal...but a head injury? I don't want to spend the rest of my life drooling on my shirt. It is pretty comfortable even in the South Florida heat.

Get a half, but don't use the small "visor" that comes with most of them.....the wind catches it and your neck pays......

This is what a lot of police depts use all over the country. I have one, it was pricey, but it flows a lot of air. I have the cushion pad interior option #2. I started with the suspension interior, it flows an tremendous amount of air, but it was not the most comfortable. I suggest you find these guys at a show to get the best fit with the option you want.

I normally use my Bell "CHIPS" helmet otherwise known as a shorty :gun I can hear well and allows me to look around with ease. It's about $50 mine is about 4 years old. I also have a Tourlite SC(also Bell) must not be too popular as I got it last summer for $60 and I see it here http://www.extremesupply.com/bellhelmets/bellmcyc/bellhelmetstourlitesc2003.htm for $50. It's bigger and all but not a bad helmet for cooler weather. I used to use a full face and really don't have a problem with them but they can be toasty. All in all I wear the CHIPS 90% of the time, easy on easy off - hey old guys wear Bells :banapart

Check out NEXL Carbon Fiber and ACC Carbon Fiber, both DOT. NEXL is very comfortable and good protection. ACC is also comfortable and smaller, more of a skid lid look, but does not feel like it offers as much protection as the NEXL. No wind parachute problems with either. Both are price, but hey you only got one head.

Half helmets are cool but won't keep your face pretty :D

Three-Quarters are really nice and give you the open face feel with added protection.

Full face are the safest but damn uncomfortable..

I do like the carbon fiber lids as well-
