I figured I may as well stick some info from racing the gixxer in here untill I get the sporty goin as the points I'm accruing will hopefully be capped off at the end of the year by the sporty... :clap ..and with a bit of luck another "racer of the year" trophy...
Temp 100f in the shade of my shed at 2.30 pm...will drop to about 80-85 by finals time
40% relative stupidity... but that will go up to around 80% by the finals tonight
barometric pressure 1010...pretty good..should hold
Good air for here....at this time of year.....
Woulda been easy 11's on the sporty tonight
I'm gonna fry standin there in the stagin lanes in black leathers... :(
At least with this Gixxer doin 10's it's makin me adjust my cadence, which will help on the sporty as it'll be going quicker than it ever has... :tour
Ahh well it's all points in the series.....roll on 10 second sporty :D :clap

Quiet meeting...only about 50 cars and a dozen bikes....
The air stayed close to as I picked it but the humidity didn't quite come up as high as I thought it may....
I got down to a 10.4 :D not bad for a street bike with a bog stock quiet as a mouse exhaust on it ... :) and getting consistent 1.7 60' times
MPH around the mid 130's
Quicker than my mates bike (he only got 10.5's) which is the same but he's got a better exhaust and is putting out another 10 horses...and he's still got the fairing which helps down the deep end and his clip-ons put more weight on the front than my motocross bars...mines more fun to wheelie tho :D
Didn't win the meeting...but the 2 guys that beat me were in the final......
I tried deep staging as I found that was the best way to get consistent good lights on the sporty BUT I couldn't nail it on the gixxer..it comes out too hard...
So I changed back to a shallow stage to allow me a softer launch and I didn't get the lights wired...
One race I lost on a bad light but pushed him to 0.005 over his dial-in....if only he hadda gona 0.005 UNDER
I'm finding now that I need to start applying a touch of rear brake in second as the front is coming up too high and I have to back it off :( .that's what cost me the second race against my mate who went on to win.....
The whole timing/cadence is totally different to the sporty and I need some time to get the sporty rythum out of my system......pretty hard when i've done that many passes with the sporty that it's automatic...If I could learn to win on the sporty then I can learn to win on this and I don't think it will be difficult to go back to the sporty...the sporty will be different anyway as it'll be going faster than it has before :yay
With the sporty i could feel the engine better, this thing ya need to watch the gauges and try and judge the front end rise.....
more practice......more practice....more practice........................
and then some more practice ;)

Stevo, those are some interesting descriptions on the dynamics of drag racing. It sounds like when yer on the Sporty, you are one with the machine and are able to ride intuitively with good results. I'm sure that with a little seat time on yer gixxer you will figure out it's nuances as well. Best of luck to ya!

Sounds like a good night at the track combined with a lot of fun too... Kind of a silly question but what tires are you using?

Yeah I expect some similarities when the sporty's goin again...
When it was runnin well it would lift and hold the front wheel up in second.....
I could nail pass after pass after pass within a tenth or so.......even the car guys would comment on how each pass sounded identical :)
I'm finding as I'm starting to explore the ability of this bike I also have to extend my ability and learn new things...and dust off the things that havn't been used in a while.
I think the problems I've having getting second gear sorted are going to be similar on the sporty at 88"
I nailed quite a few good ones tonight with the front wheel floating the whole way thru first and into second........just that I don't want to have to slip the clutch in second to keep the front down.....I was doin alright till I started gettin below 10.7's
With the power delivery i'm expecting out of the sporty I think I'm gonna have similar issues from around low 11's
more experiance will hopefully all help in the long run.....if nothing else it's at least gettin me back into the game.......I didn't race for over 2 years and my last meeting was November last year on the gixxer...
I last won a meeting in 2002, while I was still on crutches :D

Yeah..heaps o fun......with it being a smallish meeting we had some grudge racing in the middle to give the race cars a bit of cooloing off time....
I broke my previous best for a meeting with 7 passes during the night (3 in racing and 4 grudge) and 15 qualifying passes......total 22.....I just kept lining up and when there was no cars in the staging lanes I'd go again :clap
We normally get 3 qualifyers and 3 races...
I've had street meets or private sessions with the sporty where I've done around the 30 plus...
I'm runnin a Michelin Pilot Race on the rear at the mo....ex road race rubber..I get it at about 1/3 of new price and most of 'em still have the tits in the centre....
I have very little trouble with tires....any sport compund tire is fine....I was runnin 11's on BT45's ,591's or Venoms on the sporty...
The trick comes down to bein able to read the track and knowing how much of if at all ya need to burnout.....and using the clutch...
These sport compounds on the Gixxer are getting full traction with NO burnout....Just ride up to the right spot and away ya go..
