Motorcyclist killed in Salt Flats crash

A motorcyclist was killed in a 200-mph crash Wednesday afternoon.

Cliff Gullett, 47, of Bozeman, Mont., was riding in a speed trial when he lost control of his motorcycle and crashed on the Salt Flats about 4 p.m., said Tooele County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Duke North.

Gullett was wearing protective gear, but died from injuries sustained in the crash.

Investigators were unsure what caused Gullett to lose control of his motorcycle, North said. The investigation is ongoing

I am at Bonneville and it is very somber here right now. He was in the new Nebulus Theorum streamliner. It has a flat bottom and they think it caught air underneath it and did a blow over at aroun d 200 mph. This happened about 4pm and racing was called off for the rest of the day. Not a good day.

This is very sad and unfortunate my condolences to the family and team.

This team was trying to do an amazing thing by setting 16 records with the same bike and to be the fastest in the world. This kind of accident shows how fragile life can be and should never be taken for granted.

RIP Cliff,

Scott

Very sad news indeed. My condolences to his family, his team mates, and his friends.

This sport that we share an interest in is sometimes unforgiving, but most of us remain commited because the rewards are worth the risk. Those who choose to push the limits of what is possible in this sport risk the most in hopes of reaping the highest rewards, and we all have an opportunity share in their efforts and successes by supporting them.

They are modern day heros to the sport and shining examples of the spirit of human endevour.

Go with God Cliff......

Team Bozeman left the salt today. before they left they drove the trailer through the pits. It was a very sad moment but at the same time also showed the dedication this team has. His wife requested that the record he set just before he crashed be recorded as a record and both AMA and FIM agreed. His wife requested that the races go on and that this should not interfere with the event. She is one tough lady!!!

I will be sending the team a 201mph hat as he did qualify for the club.
