You'll get it out. If you don't have someone to pump and hold the brake lever for you it can be tricky but it can be done because I did mine that way. flathead45 19th February 2005, 21:11 put a length of hose on the bleeder and put the other end in a clear jar with an inch or two of clean brake fluid , place the free end of the hose in the fluid and pump away till no bubbles come out check your level in the master cylender often and don't let it get low that is about the easyest way to do it 04newhog 19th February 2005, 21:14 I just replaced mine on my 04 1200R about 2 weeks ago and did wifes 86 883 a few days later. It takes a lot of pumping on the lever. Keep at it, you'll get it. Chuck 19th February 2005, 21:38 I just put on a steel braided front brake cable and I can't get the air out..... Here's a little trick, there are many. This worked good for me on the front brakes but not on the back. Leave top off cylinder with the fluid in it. Hold a clean lint free rag over it lightly to keep fulid from spraying out and flick the brake lever rapidly. Keep doing it until you get full brake. Then if you think you need to, bleed a bit. thunderpaw 20th February 2005, 02:41 Have not had to bleed my Sporty's brakes yet...haven't opened the system yet. On other bikes, I have had very good luck by 'reverse bleeding'...start at the caliper and pump the fluid up to the master cylinder. Just be careful to not let the master cylinder get so full as to overflow. That way you are not trying to force air bubbles down. Gho 20th February 2005, 03:16 Thanks for all of the good advise. I ended up getting a vacuum pump to suck the air out. It was fast and worked really well, but it was a little spendy. Gho Chip 20th February 2005, 03:22 Did the front brakes on my buddies 04 sporty. Took a little time but the brake lever finally came up. Just got to be patient and pump and bleed the air out. flathead45 20th February 2005, 03:23 ya they are but you can use it on every thing with juice brakes and with the addapters even vacuum stuff on car engines and your petcock if ya ever need to drain the tank stevo 20th February 2005, 04:49 Tickle the air out....:D Turn the bars so that the handle end of the master cylinder is higher....sometimes ya need to loosec the master cyl and rotate it slightly... pull the lever in slightly..what you are trying to achieve is opening the initial port in the cylinder......tickle the lever around this point and you'll see air comin back into the master cylinder... Once you've got that bit worked out the tap the hose up the length of it with a small spanner to free the air that's sticking to the sides of the line..... that's a master class ..... and works well...I do it on ALL systems that are giving me trouble...... ya still need to get the air out of the caliper and you need to bleed it normally for that.. jcrow 11th June 2005, 17:06 Reverse bleed using a 50cc 0r 60cc syringe from the bottom up. daesdaemar 11th June 2005, 18:52 very important to have a "tight" fitting hose on the bleeder valve. Once I did that, it was a piece of cake... Chief4x4 12th June 2005, 06:00 Haven't had to do it to mine yet but I've helped friends with their various bikes I've followed what I learned in the automotive trade. I used to build custom 4x4s & trucks. 1st: Bleed the master cylinder. At Checker or Pep Boys get a master cylinder bleeder kit, about $5.00 & has lots of different threaded plastic nipples. Go to the hardware store & get a $4.00 torpedo level, with the resevoir cover off level the master cylinder with the torpedo level, both directions. Follow the bleeding kit's instructions. 2nd: Hookup the brakeline. NOW bleed the caliper. Works with Kawa's & Suzi's. Master cylinder bubbles can be a bitch.
