We ran well this year with the Fairway Motorsports XB9 Buell entry. 151 mph faired and 146 naked. Dan - NRHS tuned the bike on their dyno on Saturday, August 30th and it was right on the money. Engine was clean internally on the teardown. I had a problem when the chain guard mount tabs apparently metal fatigued and it broke loose at 145 mph and actually passed between the sprocket and the chain on the return run.

The right side adjuster pulled into the swingarm and bent the bolt. This created just enough slack in the chain that the aluminum guard went through and didnt jam the wheel. It happened on the return run at about 145. The rear wheel went on a crab and the brake pucks rubbed taking the speed down to 138 mph. I initially thought I ran over something on the track as the engine never quit pulling. After the run I looked down and saw the chain guard was jammed into the front sprocket cover.

That's a close one.
Who made the chainguard?

I made the guard from 6061 ... It has 2 Bonneville meets and 7 ECTA meets on it ... probably 35 passes ... the tabs were welded and riveted and still failed. Aluminum might not be the best choice for v twin. The new piece will be steel ...

Damn Joe, that was a close one. Was that the return run for the "A" class?

you are correct ... the return run for the "A" record ... It was just my day ... the cocked rear wall caused the bike to crab and drag the rear (only) brake ... cost me about 8 mph (138) but I stayed in it since the engine never changed pitch ... Joe

New chain ... new STEEL chainguard ... New sprockets ... plus a new axle ... bent the old one pretty bad ... Joe

Joe is going to use a new 530 chain from Sundance that weighs the same as a 520 chain. If the trials on his bike go well I plan to sell this chain so stay tuned.
