View Full Version : Lost Dyno Shootout by 0.09 HP!
chrishajer 18th June 2006, 15:52 Anyone have any tips for me? I lost a dyno shootout in 1997 by less that 1/10th of a HP. Here are the specifics:
Dynojet model 150
March 18, 1997
29% humidity
67.9 degrees F
Altitude 630 ft
Rear tire inflated to 42 PSI
Trek 830 mountain bike - all stock
For this shootout, 8 different riders rode the same bike. I came in 3rd with 1.53 HP, and the winner had 1.62 HP.

Wish I had pictures from THAT one. It looked a lot like this, except with a bicycle on the dyno

TiBaal89 18th June 2006, 17:36 Wow, thats more than a kW!! Thats some crazy power. I've never done that on the bicycle, looks like fun. I think at my weight though I could just stand on the pedal and get a few hp out of it. :laugh
CT1200 18th June 2006, 17:37 Have you tried NOS.... ??? It will atleast make everyone happy. ;-)

Roadster_Rider 18th June 2006, 18:11 Err what if its a NOS suppository?
Jason's Sporty 18th June 2006, 18:13 I bet Armstrong would probably be 5 or more HP. what was everyone's top speed? From the Dyno sheet it shows 28.5 MPH not to shabby for a pedal bike.
Roadster_Rider 18th June 2006, 18:16 Ive gotten to 33 on some flat cement on my mountain bike... that is really tiring though.

ive had my bike up to 85mph

chrishajer 18th June 2006, 21:40 Don't forget, you're spinning that bigass drum with the bike. Not like riding down the road where you're only pushing your weight and the bike.
I bet Lance would be more HP and top speed. We were all about torque, but we couldn't get a tach signal.

TiBaal89 18th June 2006, 21:40 aw man... mine is gear limited to about 28mph.
Any one know where I can find a 28 tooth sprocket? Oh wait, this isn't the dead horse thread. :doh

A 4 liter V8 eater 16th February 2007, 15:53 This is the greatest post ever. BTW, you should not feel bad about second place, because you are are still significantly more powerful than a horse. You and your buddys must all be olympians.
addertooth 18th February 2007, 01:17 Rear wheel rpms. Most bicycle racers are "spinners" Low torque, high RPMS. Train more in taller gears, especially while hill climbing, you will be surprised what it will do for your overall torque and horsepower figures. Back when I used to road race and criterion race bicycles I bent three cranksets from the torque I could generate. If you aren't pushing/pulling against the handlebars opposite of your feet you won't develope max torque and horsepower. This also requires good upper body strength. Addertooth
