View Full Version : The day I beat them all....

I just went to a HD drag race event. It was an 1/8th mile and all the cool bikes were there. Even a VROD destroyer and Suzuki drag bike.
After doing a few demo rides we headed over to the drag strip.
I started by racing some friends on Sporties and got some practice in.
Then a stage 3 1200. No contest.
SE 103" big buck bikes. Easier than the Sporties.
VRODs of which I raced many, had no chance
All the cool guys on their awesomly fast badass BT's got their asses handed to them by me and my Sporty.
The VROD destroyer had a bad rider so I beat him too.
The Suzuki drag bike ran really well, just not well enough to beat me.

Some of the looks I got were priceless. I was even told by a friend that he overheard one guy with a modded VROD telling the HD rep that he was lied to. Something like "You told me nothing HD could beat me, I want a refund"
There were more accolades than sore losers though, which was nice also.

Alot of eyes were opened and alot of egos crushed.
Damn I love this 88.

8500' altitude
My best time was 7.215.
Basic timing equipment so I don't have reaction, 60' or speed.

I walked away with a $450 gift voucher.

Great job, Cameron!

Man that's some serious elevation to be racing at, 8500'. Everyone is probably down on power 30% or more.

Thanks guys,
i'm still excited about it. This is the second time I raced but the first time with other bikes. Narley warned me about this bug and he's right. It just keeps getting better.
No one could beat me. It was awesome.

Aaron, thanks for having a great product available which made this possible.

Man all I got to say think about some day when we can all get together at a track and show the crowd what a little tinkering can really do. They will be handing out refunds on VRODs all day. I've adapted the old "could've had a v8" into to "could've bought a sporty", and then follows with "should've bought a sporty". Dude thou be careful speed is adicting and it doesn't take long before its all u will think of. Don't ignore the rest of your life.

I've had it running since January 06. 6000 miles.
Haven't dynoed it so I don't know the figures.

Great Job. Seat Time Will See That Bike Doin 6's In The 8th.
Btw There Is An Accepted Conversion For The 1/8th To The 1/4
1/8 X 1.55 = 1/4
So 7.22 X 1.55 =11.2 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Be Careful Is Good Advice, But Truly You Will Find That Your Need For Speed Will Be Spent Only Within The Safer Boundaries Of The Track.....nothing Else Compares...so If You Need Speed....bring It To The Track!
Way To Go...

Thanks Kerry. The best 1/4 i've done was 12.6 and 1000' lower in elevation so maybe the track wasn't exactly 1/8. Who knows.
More seat time will definately help. I can't get traction. I just keep spinning the rear. I lowered my start rpm to 3500 and it seemed to work better but when the clutch was completely engaged, the engine bogged. So i guess I need to up the rpm again and get some better clutch control.

I live at 7400' and that track is an hour away in the mountains. I should be ashamed but I still haven't tuned the bike since I built it. Stock 45 mik and whatever advance curve I picked just to start the bike. It's working well but it does feel weak on the 1/4. No pull up top.

I wish I could but as I said earlier, they were using a very basic timing system.
There was a tree, sensors on the track and a digital display. They read the numbers of the display and typed the final results in an excel spreadsheet. Very basic.
I wanted to see my reaction time and 60' so I could compare it to my 1/4 slips, but it wasn't available.

The only video I have is with a VROD but the guy missed the start. Too busy trying to look cool rappin on the throttle.

Yep, there was a tree there Jim. Kind of hard to get used to launching on the last yellow instead of the green though
