Trubota makes this look like a piece of cake, especially since I'll have the top end off. Like the hard part will be convincing my wife I NEED cams when I do the 1200 conversion.
Leaving stock 883 heads on looks like the HD 496 or Andrews N4 would be the cams of choice. However I didn't see 04+ models listed on a PDF of screamin' eagle parts (I may not have had the newest file). I also didn't see and N4s on ebay for 04+.
Anyone have recommendations on low cost reliable sources for these cams?
Which are better / quieter?
Oh, and how much oil loss is there during install? I've had a recent oil change and I'm hoping to do breakin with it.

Our price for those cams is $274.95. Out of staters pay no sales tax and if you order more from us that will save you money on shipping.

Dan ..... Not to highjack this thread ..... But, I'm moving to the PI in only 3 weeks now! :)
Can't ship my bike there (long story) .... they changed the rules and I don't have the right knida visa to legally ship it ... so it's going in storage at my daughter's house (in the garage with a cover over it) :cry1

Yeap it is. If your bike already has the metal rocker box gaskets installed, then just remove all rocker bolts on each head, remove pushrods, remove cam cover, turn the rear wheel untill the old cam timing marks line up, remove old cams, install new cams, use a soft piece of wood to lift the lifter up while installing the cams and bolt everything back up.
I spent more time just removing the tank and exhaust then doing the cam swap.

Since the top end will be apart for the conversion anyway that would be the optimum time do do cams too. It's only money.:o
All I really need is awesome power for instant passing while riding 2up.:banana
But, I would kinda like to be able to do power wheelies in first gear too.:wonderlan

Ed .... That would be the perfect time to change cams since all you really need to do is remove the cam case since the rocker boxes are already removed.

Ed, if you're looking to keep it on the cheap, I've got pulls from my '06. I upgraded to the 'E' cams at about 5,000 miles. The original 'W' cams played in Syn3 at 1k, then Amsoil at 3,300. They'll be going up in the classified section at $150; I just haven't listed them, yet.
Listen to these guys. Whatever cam set you decide to go with, I concur with their sentiments that this is the best time to swap 'em.
