Here's a few bulletins and recalls I ran across for various items of interest for model years 2000-2007. I've listed the bulletin number, component affected, and brief solution. You'll have to do your own homework to get the specific procedure and VIN affected (manufacture dates on frame):
M-1104: IGN SWITCH & KEY FOR 2000 MODEL XL= replacement of ignition switches which allow key removal with swith in "run" position. New switch P/N 94030. If yours does this, probably why.
M-1103: REVISED TRANSMISSON VENT ROUTING FOR XL= New routing eliminates sags and low spots where oil may collect and be blow out. Only on models showing blow-out symptom.
M-1116: ENGINE SPROCKET NUTS INCORRECT FOR '00-01 XL manufacture dates-5/15/00 to 6/15/00. Incorrect nut has insufficient clearance which may result in false torques. Nut may be identified by two arrow-shaped identations on top.
M-1131: REAR WHEEL SPACER IDENTIFICATION Some XL left side spacers incorrect. '03 models built between 9/3/02 to 9/11/02. Incorrect spacers have three indentations at 120 degrees apart.
M-1143: 2004 XL OIL TANK VENT HOSE ROUTING Built before 9/18/03. Some hoses may have been routed incorrectly resulting in pinched hose. Should have notified you via letter if yours is affected.
M-1152: 2004 XL1200C FUEL TANK CONSOLE Built before 2/17/04 Been redesigned to eliminate wear, fit, and rattle problems encountered.
M-1187A: Recall Code 0125 for 2004-05 XLR MASTER CYLINDER Front brake master cylinder may allow brake ligh to stay on after depressed. Should have notified you via letter if yours is affected. Should have notified you via letter if yours is affected.
M-1208B: Recall Code 0131 2006-07 XL HEAT SHIELD RECALL Riders pants may contact exposed exhaust pipe and catch fire. Should have notified you via letter if yours is affected.
M-1200A: Recall Code 0128 2007 XL VOLTAGE REGULATOR Models using thicker P/N 74546-07 contacts front fender. Replace with P/N 74546-07A. Should have notified you via letter if yours is affected.

I did get a recall notice for the heat shield but not for the voltage regulator.
