I've been told that I could put an X1 swingarm on my 98 S1...

How much trouble is this conversion? Would I need just the swingarm or the engine mount as well?

Reading CJ's post, the Ram is tempting, but I think a polished later tube frame swingarm would look good and a whole lot less money...

Getting a newer swingarm with the engine mount will make it easier but you can do it with your 98 engine mount. You will just need to grind about 1/8 of aluminum to fit it properly. You also will need an axle from the newer bikes as your axle is too long.

Dan,had one on my S-2 and really did not need to grind at all.Every mounting block must be a little different. And the early axle will work with a pair of washers.

i'm installing a 97 s1 swingarm on my 02 x1 and just to be sure about the mounting block I went to my local harley dealer and they checked for me. they said it will fit w/ no problems because the s1 part# has been superseded to my 02 x1 part #. so I don't see you have any problems.
