Fav album, Hotel California. Know it front and back. I was a teenager the summer it came out in '75 or '76. Whenever I hear something on it, it transports me right back to that time.....what good times!

#2 AC/DC 'Back in Black' .

Favorite live albums, the Eagles Live from the early 80's and the Skynyrd live album.

Good thread lager, I am at this very moment compiling my "Greatest Hits of Rock n Roll" collection and should get some good ideas from it.....

Man, that's a tough one. Being a musician, I've been exposed to so much good music in all styles, it's hard to choose. But, I'll try.
Best live album- Lynyrd Skynyrd, One More From The Road. When I was first learning to play guitar, live albums were the ones to jam along with because all the songs were in the same tuning, I didn't need to re-tune in order to play the next song. And Skynyrd's song writing really hits home for me. Honorable mentions go to AC/DC, Got Blood If You Want It and The Rolling Stones ,Love You Live. Oh, yeah, Aerosmith, Live Bootleg.
Top 3 Rock albums
#1- ZZ Top's First album. More of a blues thing than rock but, totally awesome anyhow.
#2- Rolling Stones, Some Girls. I love the Stones and could have picked 10 albums for this one. This is what popped into my head first.
#3- Pink Floyd, The Wall. I was never a big Floyd fan until I heard this one.
Honorable mentions go to anything Stevie Ray Vaughan, anything Big Sugar, anything Eagles, anything Aerosmith, etc.
Music is alot like religion and politics. No matter what you like, someone will argue with you over it. It's so subjective. If you would have left out the "Rock" aspect, my first 2 picks, Skynyrd and ZZ Top, would be the same but the rest would be different. Ask me tommorow and I'll give you a different answer. There's just way too much good music and too many bands to choose from.

Ditto Zepp II & I, for third a toss up with Zepp VI and Pink Floyd Dark side of the moon.
Then again in a different mood it could be anyone of Santana's early alblums ;)

Top 3 Rock albums
Metallica - Ride the Lightning
Iron Maiden - Powerslave
Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon

Live Album
KISS Alive 1 - First heard this when I was 8 years old. My next door neighbor had it and I could not stop listening to it. I was officially hooked on Rock 'n Roll. It changed my musical tastes at a very young age.

1. AC/DC- "Back in Black"
2. Kid Rock- "Devil Without a Cause"
3. Meatloaf- "Bat out of Hell" (yeah I know, but I like it)

Best live...

There's a GREAT live CD of Pink Floyd's "The Wall" but my favorite is probably Eric Clapton "Unplugged".

I have Live at Fillmore East as well as the more recent Fillmore Concerts. Totally awesome! The Allmans aren't so much a rock band as they are a blues/jam band but, they are unbelievable, nontheless. Had this thread not been about Rock, The Allman Brothers Band would have been right up there for me. I really have a hard time categorizing music by genre. It's either good or bad, for me at least. I mean, I can listen to Merle Haggard, Soundgarden, Tool, Ray Charles, Buddy Guy, Blue Rodeo and Alice cooper all in a row and love every second of it. The one thing I do hate, however, is this Hip-Hop/ Rap shit. I know I'll probably offend someone with that but it's just my opinion. It's music by definition only. I find no redeaming value in it, whatsoever. :frownthre

Well I guess I better put my 2 cents in here.. Its hard to pick only 3 albums. But I think The Beatles Abbey Road, The Rolling Stones Exile on main street.. And Black Sabbath Sabbath Bloody Sabbath. As for live ,.. The Who Live at Leeds.. How the hell you only pick 3 I dont know? I could list hundreds.. By the way , I brought my daughtor down in the basement the other day and showed her my old album collection. She couldent believe we used to put these huge things on a turntable to play them. I explained the procedure to her, she laughed like hell...

Newer AC/DC isn't as good, but they've changed. Kinda like Metallica, some people like the "new" stuff some people think everything after "...And Justice for All" is a sellout.

Most stuff after Back in Black sucks but, there are still some gems in there. Bon Scott totally rocks!!! I like Bon Scott. Soe of my favorite AC/DC songs are his. But there have been a TON of great songs with Brian Johnson.
"For Those About to Rock"
"Dirty Deeds"
"Big Balls"
"Shake Your Foundations"
"Thunderstruck"
"Given' the Dog a Bone"
"Rock and Roll Ain't Noise Pollution"
"What Do You Do For Money, Honey?"
"Lets Get it Up"
"Have a Drink On Me"

Dude, most of those songs are from "Back in Black". Dirty Deeds and Big Balls are Bon Scott tunes from the album "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap". All good songs, though. And I really don't have anything against Brian Johnson, he's without a doubt the best replacement they could have found. But, as a song writer, he's no Bon Scott. :D

You gotta take AC/DC for what it is. It's not clever, it's not fancy, it's not complicated, it's not groundbreaking. It is just good 'ol guitar driven, high energy rock 'n roll.

Favorite ROCK album would have to be Deep Purple's "Machine Head".
Funny you'd mentioned the Zep, I do love Led Zep 3! the "acoustic-ish" album....
1st 3 or so Creedence albums were great from start to finish, also 'Are you Experienced"....
plus, other stuff that is "rock" but its really "roots rock" like old Chuck Berry stuff. Stuff you don't even know which album its on, cuz it was in the days before "album rock" per se. I love that real old stuff.

But as far as the whole album from track one to track 10 or whatever, Machine Head is STILL amazing.

Was recently amazed by Red Hot Chili Peppers "Stadium Arcadium" - about 8 or 10 of the tracks are some of the best rock and roll I've heard. The band is so good.
I think the album had too many tracks...but about one albums' worth is pure gold priceless stuff.
imho!

thats my story an I'm sticking to it!

Where did you get this from? I'm curious....

I DO know Scott had HEARD of Johnson, and even liked his style, but that's all I know....

he told the rest of the band that if he should die he'd (johnson) would be a good replacement

don't remember the source but it was an old rock mag when I was 18 (soo many years ago)

My favorites change on a daily basis...

Jane's Addiction - Nothing's Shocking... this album changed my life! Brilliant!
Nymphs - Nymphs... heavy and beautifully ugly, with a gorgeous girl singer.
Stooges - Funhouse... Iggy is God!

Live album? I probably listen to UFO's Strangers in the Night most. When I was a kid, one of the Chicago radio stations dubbed "Lights Out Chicago!" for every chorus of "Lights Out." F'ing loved it!

Jane's Addiction first album was excellent. I don't recall hearing any other releases from them. Never bought it personally but heard most of it from a friend. Honestly can't say for sure why I never bought it.

KANSAS Leftoverture
KANSAS Masque
Styx Grand Illusion
Rush Moving Pictures

Early Kansas and Styx played some really good tunes. Well written and some complex. Seemed to sell out in later years. Yes would fit into your list quite nicely too.

About the early 80's I left the boy bands behind for the chicks. Got tired of paying good money for one decent song. Prior to that I would have to say Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon would be a favorite.

Its no secret my passion for Tori Amos. My favorite is probably Boys for Pele, but generally I love most of her records.

You know klown they ended 'Battlestar Galactica this year with a remix of that song (it finally came together over a few episodes) and I have to say the lyrics are excellent. But didn't Bob Dylan pen that song?
