my rear brake light has stopped working when using the brake foot pedal. It works using the braker lever only. Can soemone point me in the right direction to try and trouble shoot this? I'll probably end up having to take it to a mechanic, but I thought I'd try hear first. The bike is a 1989 883XLH Sporty.

Many thanks in advance. chieftd the lousy mechanic :)

There is a switch on your brake line off the rear master cylinder either a bad wire or a bad switch.

There's a Pressure switch between the master and the caliper, either the wires are loose, or the switch is bad.

Is the switch what is covered with the rubber boot? I assume I can remove the boot to look? chieftd

Many thanks for the tips! I fixed it!! It was a small switch on the left side of the bike (under a rubber boot) that had come un plugged. Plugged it back in and all is well. Thanks again. Regards, chieftd

Hey, Chief, if you get stuck sometime again in the future, don't hesitate to stop by the auto hobby shop...I've found some great talent at each one I've visited, and it's almost like a Sporty get together...everyone has a similar interest and are more than happy to help out another person having a problem! Glad you found this problem!
