Just returned from a 600 mile round trip from Mckinney (30 miles north of Dallas) to San Antonio. Took US 281 up and back and the scenery was great. The pic is right after I arrived at my sister's place...I had already removed the duffle off the luggage rack. The only downside was all the buffeting coming from underneath and sides of the windshield (HD quick detach). But, when I put my legs up on the engine guard, the head-jostling diminished completely. A great trip overall. :tour

Congrats on the trip, sounds like you had a bunch of fun... I used to live in Austin, TX... you guys have a lot of great wide open country to get into...
Recently I rode from Houston to Austin when I first bought my bike... took 281 too...
Glad you made it and it was fun... must have been a warm trip tho, huh??

Sounds like it was a great trip. I will be traveling from Midland to San Antonio in August for business (any reason to take the bike on a long trip). The company would fly me, but I would have to go from Midland to Dallas, layover, then Dallas to San Antonio (with a possible stop somewhere else). Or I can just hop on the bike and go. When you figure in the layover and time sitting in an airport/airplane, it really doesn't take me that much longer to travel on the bike. Plus I will get reimbursed mileage!
Anyway... I use to get buffetted around quite a bit with my Memphis Shades. Added some lowers and are loving them! They really make it much more enjoyable on those long rides in the West Texas wind.
BTW, love your bike! :-)

Nice trip! Your bike looks pretty sweet, too. Got any more pics?
I've never been to TX, but I'm making my 1st trip in February, to San Antonio, to visit friends. Looking forward to seeing some of the countryside.

Nothing like a nice trip on the bike to adjust your attitude! Sounds like you realy enjoyed yourself. You mentioned the buffeting. I ride with my feet on the rear pegs at times and the difference it makes is amazing.

Pulchritude - Got a pic of these lowers you're talkin about? Are they detachable? Enjoy that trip to SA!
Debster - Thanks! I'm hoping to get more pics up soon. You have a nice looking scoot yourself...love the color :)
HDWL1947 - I thought about doing that, but didn't know if it would work. Going to have to try that next time...thanks for the heads up.

good job on the ride. I have the H-D quick detatch also and have only used it once and that was to try it. I really found it made more turbulance than anything else.

CaptainRon,
They are not 'quick detachable', per say, but could come fairly quickly with an Allen wrench.
I am not currently smart enough to get pictures on the forum.
But I will keep trying.

Aug 3-7 took my `96 883 to Sturgis. 610 miles going (11 hours), 3 days of riding through the hills, 640 miles returning (13 hours). Total 1950 miles. Lesson learned: They make trailers for a reason.

LOL...yeah, Rapper, but it's an experience I'm sure you don't regret having.
