Well, I got out the dremel today and started hacking on my upper belt guard. I didn't like the guard removed, so I just modified it. I guess it is ok

Here is a before and after plus a close-up:

Well, it's different anyway ... I am going to have to put a fine line of black paint on the edge that was cut.

I gotta leave this bike alone! :p

Keep on tinkering, Ron! You're helping clarify the word "personalizing" to new heights, and I believe that's what these Sporties are on this Earth for! Plus what else do you have to do in the rain? We can relate up here! :D

If you don't give us back our water soon, we're gonna look like Phoenix in a couple of months!

So you took off the debris deflector on the bottom before, huh? I've heard that if you remove that, your drive belt may suffer the consequences. Little rocks and road grim get into the teeth of the belt and wear into the fibers of the belt.

I wonder if this is a big deal or not? I imagaine your still on your first belt, right?

planb ... This is the first day in 2 weeks that it hasn't rained ... I think I will take this bike out for a 1 hour ride as soon as the temp gets above 65. :)

freakyt ... You may have a point, but I will take my chances.

Here is a shot of the bike from a distance. Still don't know if I like the mod or not. I guess it's ok. If I get tired of it, I think these stock black guards sell cheap on Ebay.

That looks nice Ron!! Sometimes the subtle changes are enough to just give that "somethings different, but I can't quite place it" feel.

p.s. When are you gonna get the bike dirty ???

Gary ... Might get it dusty today :yikes ... I have to go to the mall to get something. Might just ride it up there and the stop by that Stealer that raped me $17 for those dollar two ninety eight upper rocker gaskets about a month ago.

I was thinking of modifying mine too, before i just removed it. I think it might look good removeing the lower part of the upper gaurd and cutting the top piece behind the shock at the same angle as the shock. Then you won't see where the gaurd is cut.

I think it is pretty cool...like you said, it makes it different. One thing is for certain, your bike definitely looks better without the lower best guard.

Looks real nice. By the way, who made the license plate bracket you're using?

Turbo, I'm in your boat...I'm not sure if I like it better or not, but I can tell you why is might be a little unsettling to you. The stock guard followed the same line as the rear fender. The fender looks good, and the guard looks good, but they are in conflict with eachother as far as shape goes. Worksmanship is impecable as usual though!

I like it but 1200r has a good point. You'll just have to get the bobtail fender now :D

I am just going to see how this looks with the black RB Racing 2-1 pipes I have on order.

norm ... That plate bracket was something I bought from the H-D Stealer. I think it was Custom Chrome.

Barry ... You just want me to keep pissing away money on this bike ... don't ya! :)

I would drill some holes down the length of the guard. Maybe start near the front and get smaller as you get to the rear. Just like the old drilled I-beam front axles on Model A hotrods. Just a thought.
