1977 ironhead, where are the timing marks and what should timing be set

on the left side there is a plug on the case between the cylinders pull the plug and slowly turn the motor over till a vertical line shows up in the hole (make sure that number one is on the compression stroke) this will give you top dead center
then time the points by turning the advance to full open and rotating the braker plate till the points just open (a piece of the clear plastic wrapper from a cig pack between the points will help you tell when the points open, there sould be a slight drag on the plastic wrap when pulling on it ) as you can tell this methed requires three hands and and a foot to do but it is the simplest way to get in the ball park of your timming
