:roflblack:roflblack I always think about that on a trip. Roll out of bed, swig some coffee, and suddenly you're doing 85 on the interstate. BTW, I really like that exhaust. Is that a V&H product?

yes, it's a Competition Series from V&H: LINK (www.vanceandhines.com/store/sportster/fullsystems/75-107-9)

nice bike there, i think you should go for an old school look a/c, relocate the coil and hiding the wires under the tank, just my opinion or maybe that's what i wish to do in the near future :)

i'll do. i have a bunch of things to do here...
in my garage i have:
-west eagle slim seat
-two sets of blinkers (front and rear)
-rear fender
-steering damper
-suport for the coil relocation

and some other stuff i'll do myself:

-side mount the headlight
-use a number plate between the triple trees
-wirering tuck (something like Cosmo did. how awesome is that!? ps: i hate you for that Cosmo! :laugh )

...and so on...

:smoke

Just finsihed some work, relocated the speedo with the autometer mount, put on some 12" apes, smoke lenses, relocated front signals, sissy bar from licks, mustang seat, progresive 412 shocks in the rear, drag pipes with black wrap and painted the derbey cover black and ditched the front fender and belt guard.

Seat is awesome. The kick up in back is perfect. I tried cramming the ECU in different places, including the battery box, but in the end, under the seat was the easiest and simplest solution.

td67mustang,
Actually all my stuff is powder coated flat black. I like doing it a that way rather then spray painting, due to the fact of the paint being baked on & having a thicker coat. If you find a local powder coater (ask your local HD dealer where they send their stuff to) they should do it. I tend to take parts in bulk that way i get a better deal and they get done faster due to having to be done in batches. I got my rocker covers & primary covers along with derby cover done at the same time, cost was $150.

Hey, been absent for a while, and much may have been do to anxiety from messing around too much with the bike along with a bunch of other bs. kinda went through a lot of drama within the last 2 years and I feel content once again as I got the bike looking good again in a more comfortable style.

Lot's of people will think " what the F did you do?" as it had already been recieved positively on you tube "One nightster in Vegas". But damn it I had my reasons, and I had to completely F it up, regret it, than after much anticipation make something good out of it again, and learn from many mistakes. BTW I could have payed this shit off a long time ago of I spent the money on the Lien instead of the mods. BLah! whatever.

In this picture below I got sick of looking at the fender. It just didn't come out the way I had visioned it. so after the fender was pulled. It reamained in this fenderless state for a full year, and not by choice.

She went into the same shop that hooked me up the first time, and I was impressed with the outcome. Did everything I asked them to do, as I had completely lost patience for messing with the thing. Anyways I really needed a pro to paint it.
The paint is Ford's Boxwood Green 1968-1972. It was chosen to match my father's restored 1969 Limited Edition F100. I had always loved the paint on that truck.

J.R., the front is not a kit. It's basically a VRod front end with really long tubes. The headlight mount is factory for the trees with an aftermarket headlight specifically for the VRod.

Painted the bike black with a little bit of extra parts to compliment the tank and fenders. Had the bike green a couple months ago however I never fell in love with the color. I tried to wet sand the green parts but ruined it in the process. BBD Coaters In Syracuse NY took care of me again with the flat black. Ill get a few more pictures next time shes out of the garage.

It's got a 6in fab tech suspension and a 3in body lift.. I love the way it looks. The ride quality could be better but it doesn't bother me! I'm just gonna buy some bilstein 5100 shocks to compensate!

I'd love to have an 02 2500hd lifted tho!

It's the original one, I turned the headlight upside down and changed the inner electronics. many info here on the forum about that.
made a small "template" out of light aluminum and bended it so that the light beam would be correct. after that brought the template to a store and told them to build it in stainless steel for me. cost me about 15$.
tapped a hole on the lower part of the fork and attached it.

here's the beginning of what i'm doing to my helmet too but it's not finished. first time i've ever messed with pin striping. i have to say it's pretty damn hard...

I actually wanted to cut it shorter but had to leave it long enough to keep the fender support bracket so my lady can still ride with me. I trimmed a little off the bracket too so it didn't showed from the back. Made it about a quarter in offset after the fender was cut off pretty much even with it before. After she gets het bike then its getting bobbed more.

bike looks great! does your tank lift also push your tank forward? mine decreased the area between seat and tank, where your has a gap covered by the hanky. i remember your orange tank had that as well.

also curious on how the gf likes riding with the fender chopped, debating on cutting mine there but didn't want to mess with her. she won't be getting her own bike anytime soon. lol keep up the good work! like the helmet!

Nice... me likey. That, drag bars (although those bars look pretty good too) and a 16" fat front wheel and mid-controls would be my ideal bike. Dammit, I just sold my SV so I have nothing to ride now because I'm saving up for a Sportster. Lurking on this site is screwing me up... lol. I'll probably end up with a used Nightster before the summer is out.

oh and as far as the tank lift moving the tank... its at the same spot it's always been in the back, only the front is up 2 inches.

I can honestly say your bike is inspiration for the route I'm going with mine. Just put in an order for Biltwell Friscos and Lick's coke bottle grips. Where did you get your mirror? I plan to chop my fender exactly the same this winter, the rear fender needs to be re painted anyway from the previous owner. The Biltwell timing cover looks different than the ones on their site, I haven't found one that has that brass look to it?

Thanks man. I'm pretty happy with it so far, just can't wait to get it professionally painted this winter and get a new seat. Plan on tidying up some wires and whatnot too then. As far as the cover goes, it's is chrome, I guess it just has a glare on it in the pics. The chrome part is easy to remove if someone wanted to get it plated though. The mirror is a Lick's 3". It was like $15 bucks I think. I love the stuff Biltwell puts out. It's kinda hard sometimes not to put too much of their stuff on the bike so the bike doesn't look like a rolling advertisement for them. As far as the fender, I just cut about how much I wanted and then used the part I has chopped off as a stencil to cut the rest at a nice radius. I did free hand the edges a bit because i wanted a little tighter of a curve on the edges.

Here's a pic with a 48 tank I put on but I'm not sure I like it. It might just be the color I'm not crazy about... I'm about to rattle can the whole bike to get me by for the rest of the summer. I also added a Vance and Hines air cleaner but I'm still waiting on the Harley shop for my cover to come it. My plan for the bike is to kinda make it look like a modern interpretation of a late 70's Sporty.

You are correct sir. The stock seat and the tank do not flow together but I will be putting a new seat on it this winter. Gonna go with a sprung solo seat with a leather pass. pad.

As far as the turn signals, they are Auto Gem "Baby Bullets". They are only two wire so they run as turn/ brake lights. They are not DOT legal but I put a big brake light that is run/ brake/ tag.

Here are a few bikes that have inspired me on my build. I was gonna buy a 79
Sporty that had been hard tailed and was an awesome looking bike very similar to the first bike below but wanted my first H-D to be something a little newer and more reliable that I knew I could keep forever. It took me forever to finally be able to buy one so I'm never going to sell it. It's kinda like me first born child in a way. The first bike is perfect in my opinion and I want to paint mine very close to it and put the old ironhead style lettering on the tank. The other bikes have a few styling cues I like as well.

Hi Johnny5 I dont have i side shot but will try and get one up ASAP, it is the barebones by Le Pera, it flows really well between the tank and fender. I have only had the bike a month and not quite figured out the rear end yet, definitley will get new shocks which are a little lower, I feel it sits too high however I do ride two up with my missus sometimes and need some fender to get the pillion pad on and need a little give/travel in the shocks ...

A guy on here has the same seat and he shows a side shot somewhere in his thread, here is a link to that thread it is worth taking a look..

RYHD, Yeah, more or less. Basically, I want a 48 with LePera Bare Bones seat, Mid controls and a Nightster tank, without paying $10,000 plus dollars. (Aside from the default exhaust, ECU and filter upgrades)

I figure I can get a good used Nightster for 60% of that, and then customize at my leisure.

Nice! Not sure how rare it is, I saw one the other week for sale with the same paint and was asking same as other vivids and mattes etc.
Do you have much rain where you are? If not have you considered removing the fender, its so slim that it does'nt do a great deal plus I think it gives a great look.

I say remove the tins! Any excuse for hours in the garage modding!

Hi Johnny5, I had both the 48 and nightster at my local HD stealership looking at me, they were side by side. After 2 months of looking online, forums, galleries I just felt the Nightster lends itself to amateur modification more than the 48 for some reason? Cant put my finger on it but there was something which drew me more to the nightster. Was torn between the front ends and went with the nightster and love it.

I have been caught in some torrential rain and just wrap the bandana round my face and have some good sunglasses under a 3/4 lid with visor however I am looking over the pond for an openface daytona helmet so that should be interesting when the random rain storm hits with no visor to pull down or front fender..haha

Relocate the ECM for the 48 seat? If so where'd you put it?

Thanks Ice, yeah the bars are Biltwell Chumps, super comfy.
I relocated the ECM and PC5 under the battery cover. It sticks out a bit but it's not that noticeable.

Thanks man the tires are avon cobras and their the stock size 150/80 but for whatever reason their an inch wider than the stock tires. I cant say enough about the tires they hook up like nothing else and Ive got about 3500 on them this year and theirs still alot of tread left.

Pic at the garage when I was adjusting my throttle. Buddy was welding his headlight back together for his 01 springer front end sporty.

Mods on my bike include: Vance & Hines short shots, Orange LED accent lights from LED Glow, fork bag, biltwell friscos, lick's coke bottle grips, lick's 3" round mirror, pulled off the belt gaurd. Previous owner did a crappy job with tinting the turn signals/brake lights so I'll have to redo them or get new lenses. Gonna pull off the front fender, tanklift and ignition/coil relocate soon.

I am in the disassembly process, I want to rewire with bare minimum, put batt, ecm, power commander, and fuses in saddle bag, new shocks and powder coat. All gaskets will be replaced in process. I am up to the engine part, trying to figure out how to take out.

Did you have to buy new cables when you put those handlebars on, or were the stock ones long enough?

No, I had done my research on here and on biltwell's website and you DO NOT need new cables. The only thing I had to do was remove the p-clamp that holds the brake line to the triple tree and slightly straighten the hard part of the brake line. I love these bars!

hey scarfmace, did you find it difficult to install the pillion, luggage rack, and sissy bar using all the parts provided in the kits. i have all the same parts you have and it was frustrating getting it all to fit. the bolts from the sissy bar barely fit with the luggage rack, and for the pillion the hole in my fender was not fabricated for the insert nut provided because it was the fender brace. long story short got everything on it but had to leave out alot of washers.

$30 at a local harley dealer, i think its the smallest one they make, measures about 8" x 5" and fits the forks perfect. Ebay has them occasionally, heres one ending soon http://www.ebay.com/itm/HARLEY-DAVIDSON-TOOL-BAG-NEW-NO-TAG-/110937816144?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item19d468bc50&vxp=mtr
