Txn, what did you do with your old handlebars and cables?

I don't care what people say about ShortShots, they look so right on the black Sportsters.

Dan are you looking for those items? I still have the ones from my 08. Never parted with them after I traded it in. PM me if you are interested.

Handlebars got bent and thrown away but still have the cables. Needing some?

Hey nickl011

Did you have to buy new cables when you put those handlebars on, or were the stock ones long enough?

No, I had done my research on here and on biltwell's website and you DO NOT need new cables. The only thing I had to do was remove the p-clamp that holds the brake line to the triple tree and slightly straighten the hard part of the brake line. I love these bars!

hey scarfmace, did you find it difficult to install the pillion, luggage rack, and sissy bar using all the parts provided in the kits. i have all the same parts you have and it was frustrating getting it all to fit. the bolts from the sissy bar barely fit with the luggage rack, and for the pillion the hole in my fender was not fabricated for the insert nut provided because it was the fender brace. long story short got everything on it but had to leave out alot of washers.

$30 at a local harley dealer, i think its the smallest one they make, measures about 8" x 5" and fits the forks perfect. Ebay has them occasionally, heres one ending soon http://www.ebay.com/itm/HARLEY-DAVIDSON-TOOL-BAG-NEW-NO-TAG-/110937816144?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item19d468bc50&vxp=mtr

Nope. Just tied it on there the day after I got the bike and I've never taken it off except to wash the bike. I just kinda like the way it looks.

And as far as the pipes go, I thought I'd change it up a bit. Got tired of seeing every Sporty now with the same thing. I think short shots are def one of the best looking pipes on Sporties, but everyone gets them. Just wanted mine to be a little different.

It was made by the bikes previous owner. As far as sissy bars go I like it.
But I like the look without it better. I keep it on cause it keeps the kid from
Flying off the back when I accelerate and he's not paying attention.

The exact reason I have a backrest on mine too.
Once I put it on it was more fun being able to twist the throttle all the way. The giggles from the back seat from my son made it worth it.

How mine looks now. Pulled the front fender a while back, looks better with out, but getting hit in the face from debris kicked up by that tire kinda sucks. Pulled the heat shields off to either drill holes in them machine gun barrel style and repaint or slap on some black header wrap.

Hi TexasEleven, I have the same 2012 nightster. I went with the 32" drags with 4" pullback along with the autometer clamp. One thing I did do was internally wire the drag bars, took a little time but well worth the end result. The autometer clamp has been on for 2k miles and still solid and not moved.

nothing special. 09 nightster bought bone stock at beginning of riding season (april). mods consist of home made bike peddles (rhinos from local bike store), tank lift, wire tuck and coil/key relo thanks to several diy threads on here, autometer tach cup and digital/shiftlight speedo relo, biltwell high drag bars internally wired, some bicycle bag i snagged from walmart and ziptied to swingarm, sikpipes diesel exhaust, home made air cleaner from some drain suction filter from tractor supply, pcv. all i can think of for the moment sure theres some mods i did im leaving out. future plans include heads and cam work, springer front end, new seat pan im in the process of making up, rear fender chop. http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh155/joeyfoster_bucket/SANY0026.jpg

also anyway i can see more pics, from the front and from the seated postion? did you get rid of your dummy lights or relocated?

"What did you do to your shocks? They look like 11". How is the riding? I'm guessing it's just like a hard tail, isn't it?"

Not even close. I had them chopped by BitchinBaggers to stock length rather than using lowering blocks. I settled on 0psi and the ride is so much unlike the stock shocks its ridiculous. Where I would have to brace for impact with the stock set up (both front and rear) these allow me to just ride while they absorb the road. I really can't say enough about them. It used to physically hurt. Now you can understand my reluctance to go to a hard tail set up....

etrigan
25th October 2012, 19:14
That's nice!
I ask that because I use a 12" on mine, and I really think they are really hard, and although I'd like to use a 11", I can't imagine using shocks harder than mine.

PS: I live in Brazil, and streets here can be awful (wholes and undulations) when compared to US ones...

I found the clipons to be super UNCOMFORTABLE... I love the look of them... I have posted some photos above. But with the pegs mid mounted position the combo just doesnt work for me. I had a lot of neck strain from being forced to look up all the time. I think if the pegs were further back, it would be better.
I also have some flat bars which have a cool look and work a little better in the real world.

i have bad elbows, another reason i hate crotch rockets. so i had concern with these having me stretched out, but the only time they effect me is when im at a red light for a long time and still holding the brake or clutch. when throttled up i naturally lean into the wind, and relieve the arms.

When I first put my friscos on, they hurt my wrists a little since I was used to bars with a bend, friscos are pretty much straight across (only like 5* bend or something) so it took a little getting used to but they feel very comfortable now. I think my bike is easier to control with the friscos. Also rocking mid controls, only because forwards are 400 from Harley....5'10" also, and I have bad knees.

When running those frisco's keep mid controls for sure. I have frisco's with forwards and find myself wanting to have my feet in mid position. When I ride any real distance I put my feet on the motor a lot just because the forwards can get uncomfortable at times with the reach to the bars.

I'm using one of BUB's 2-1 headers for a custom exhaust.

Yes, they are Paughco 2" brass tapered tips. Just cut the pipes straight, knocked out the baffle weld-nut and used the tips as the nut.

The baffle is still in, just the baffle nut is gone, these tips have an OD that is the same as the ID of the baffles.

A little trick for cutting pipes is to use a hack saw with a new blade, put a hose clamp which will lay straight with the pipe & give a nice guide. Then cut it slow & remove clamp, file any rough edges.

what are your seat shocks doing? I dont see how they can even compress

Rodey
13th December 2012, 20:46
They are just hanging out LOL. They compress a little but I didn't like the look of the seat high up where the shocks were more functional. I will eventually make a bracket so that I can keep the seat height and relocate the shocks. But for right now...it was either looks or function.

Hi guys,

I've a 2007 Xl 1200 N (USA Import)
For sure that there are n't that many USA models here in The Netherlands...
I love the standard side mount licence plate holder and the red backlights.
The modified EU models have a rear light on the fender and orange turn signals. As you can see, I modified some.
- Exhaust is ceramic coated
- air filter black gloss powder coated
- Mini ape
- Own design lamp holder (Which I will share in another topic)
- White wall tires
- LED light front turn signals (daylight LED and orange when turn signal is on)
Because this is my first post, I cannot post the URL with the image, so I post the images in another reply ;-)

Here's my 09 Nightster. Originally denim silver and black. Stage one, custom T-Header, 10" mini apes with 2" risers, bolted stock fender to RSD fork brace and lowered over front tire. Everything else is bolt-ons. Head to tail airbrushing done on bike. Motor and rocker covers are now painted black as well.

Thanks, get some pics of the fronts too!

I was just wondering how they looked on the struts seeing their indented and have 2 holes for the factory lights.

2 wire shouldn't be an issue for me, I have a Canadian 48 which came factory with the center mount brake and amber turn signals. I've since converted it to look the same as the US version, but the bulbs are still single filament with 2 wires.

yeah i also have the side mount brake light that runs as my tag light/run/and stop so i only wanted a two wire light. i made small brackets for the front to mount on but i think i'm going to change those eventually. when i mounted the rears i mounted the light to just the strut cover and reamed the strut hole out so that the nut would slide inside the old mounting hole through the strut. give me a week or so and hopefully i'll have the tins pulled off for paint and can take pics of the whole thing when i pull it apart.

heck no. its been in the teens here and my bike is in a non climate controlled building. i'm gonna get on that next week i hope. its supposed to warm up to the 40's so i'll prob go mess with it then. i really need to pull the tins for paint anyways but i've just been super busy at work and dont get home till well after dark. then its normally dinner and off to bed. who knows, maybe sunday it will be nice enough to mess with.

great pics and great job again on your bike. how's the comfort of that seat so far? i know the stock nightster seat kills my ass after only a an hour or so of riding. the one thing H-D can not do is make a good factory seat.

Here's the new incarnation of mine. Just finished painting it, putting n4 cams in it, porting the heads, and adding the power vision and autotune from my pcv. Just trying to sort out the tune now.

WOW! That's a serious wire tuck you did there!! Great job!
I've seen some topics (specially Cosmo's) about it, but how did you hide those wires close to the rear cylinder?

Fred Phuket

Yeah, Cosmo is the godfather of electronics. It was his threads that inspired me.

I did a small build tread, some wiring info there:
http://xlforum.net/vbportal/forums/showthread.php?t=1552801

Basically just ripped out the whole harness, removed all the plastic crap and then rerouted the wires where I wanted them, but still leaving the harness completely stock.

For now: 2" Air Hammer, D&D Bobcat, PV tuner, 11.5" RK shocks, Superbrace, Mustang Fastback. (HD 1/4 Fairing waiting for paint)

Great looking bike. Is that the Fastback for the 4.5g tank? I noticed the gap (looks good btw)

NI-STR, Nice ride, REALLY nice! My choice for pipe, shocks, 1/4 fairing, flipped mirrors, ect.. Please post lots of pics of the 1/4 fairing (front, sides, mounting, ect..). No one ever does that. PM them to me if nothing else, really interested in seeing more of it on a nightster or an Iron. Thanks, John

Here's a teaser of my latest change. Will probably go black again but thought I would give the sanded/clear look a try.
I'm bucking the trend to scrap the ham can. It's too "Iconic" to me. It's like taking the hood ornament off of your Jag or Rolls.
(sorry about the crappy iphone pic)
