Yes, I had my heat shields on my V&H shorts powder coated. These were on my bike before I switched to the Basanni. As you can see, it is possible. These are before and after pics.

Look around before buying. There are alot of different a/c out there. If you end up getting the dragtron, do a search here there is a part number for the K&N filter for it instead of ordering the one from Drag Specialties. This will save 10-20 dollars depending on where you get it from.

Negative, I'm pretty sure it is the same product. But the one I got came from Drag Specialties #1010-0191 pg375 of the fat book. I really don't see any difference between the two. So I'll guess it's the same product just different distributors.

Yep, like I said, same product different distributor. I do like the set-up though. Seems like every one is running a Heavy Breather or some variation of one. I like this set-up because it opens up the whole motor. Gives a bit of that " old School" look.

there should be an additional breather kit and an interim Plate to fit the Cleaner,
am I right?

Hate to say it, but I did not install this cleaner. Ended up taking her to my mechanic, who said he had a b---ch of a time getting her mounted. Had to fabricate a back plate to get it to work. So, I guess, yeah, you would need an additional kit or plate.

Please help! Im 6'3, bought a nightster with forwards and is still way to cramped! What seat puts you farthest back in Saddle. Seems to be bare bones, C&C or hollywood solo. Please let me know your thoughts but only if you have experience with one of the seats and with a nightster or iron. I had a 2002 83 with bare bones and forwards and was fine but the nightsters and Irons have the ECM so these seats fit different now. Please help!!!

I wonder why? I mean, it's the same bolt pattern isn't it? Perhaps it just needs a spacer ring?

Breathers? Pick your favourite set up, the same as with a carb.

Here's my 08' Nightster. I've got black Vance & Hines SS, black HD forward controls, black 27.5" drag bars w/xena mod on speedo, HD 4" gloss black powdercoated risers, smoked head/taillight covers, and a black stock AC. So far I like the way it looks, but still have tons of future plans. This summer I want to gloss black powdercoat a bunch of components, including the V&H pipes. I also plan on modifying the baffles on the pipes to try to get some more noise out of them. I have been looking on ebay recently for a 21" front wheel; the ones I have seen look great on the nightster. I'd like to clear out all the wires and relocate the coil too, as many people have done to get a cleaner look under the tank. The only issue I have had so far is that now with such short bars, I can't see anything out of my mirrors. Thought about flipping them but I might run into tank clearance issues. I've also had trouble finding a good 2up seat that looks low and matches the lines of the bike, but won't kill my butt. Let me know if anyone has any ideas!

The LAW

The LAW:

i like your pipes, how much did you get it for and did it come in flat black?

Also, would you know how loud it is compared to VH short shots?

spaceboy071
25th March 2009, 00:32
The pipes are V&H Double Barrels they look like a 2 piece pipe set but they are realy 2 into 1 with a power chamber which gives me way more torque than the short shots. It has a growl to the sound not as loud as the short shots but I did not want LOUD I wanted FAST. they only come in chrome but when I had them put on and was 2 blocks away from they shop I got smoked in the rear end by a mini van. Grrrrr well only scratched the new pipes a lil bit so I had them ceramic coated. Runs cooler and I hate chrome so it works for me. I had the dealer install them and the power pack the whole thing ran me about 1200. I love the pipes...

Someone told me that my original pics disappeared, so I figured I would 'update'. The images where you see the whole bike are a a month or so old...you can see by the close-ups that I redid the wiring underneath the tank, remounted the ignitions switch. The bike is do to get a kansas kustoms hardtail conversion in a couple weeks, and I have a set of Sportster style 'fatbars' being built by exile cycles. Bike is an 08 1200N, bought last October... : )

Hey eNIGHTSTER - does Exile offer a 2 into 1 sprocket disc brake conversion for the Sportster? That would look really nice on your ride since you already have the chain sprocket. Nice ride and I'm looking forward to the finished product once you get the hardtail conversion!

I know they have differant laws across the pond over there but whats up with the amber tail lights? Are they the brake lights to like the ones here in the states? I know your turns have to be amber but is the turn more important than the brake lights? I would think the brake lights should be the most important. I had never noticed this before.

Folkie
12th April 2009, 19:45
No, they have to be red. I guess those ones show up red when they're on; a bit like the smoked lights don't look red, but show up red when they're on.

Correct... they have to be amber for the indicators but when you apply the brakes they go red. I wanted smoked one for the back as I have them on the front... but you can't get them for the back as they are a sealed unit, so my Stealer said.... does anyone know otherwise? I would like smoked for the back if I could get them. Amber just spoils the look of the bike...I think.

Just north of Newcastle. I've put a smaller plate on and not had any bother. But to me the nightster was made for that uncluttered back mudguard and its a shame to spoil it.

Looks good with the mirrors under the bars..... I've just ordered some RSD Vintage Bars from the States now so I will wait now until I get the RSD's fitted then relocate the indicators & maybe just have one mirror under the bars. Gettin' some RSD PM Grips too from the same guy... your prices in the US are so much better than the UK, we totaly get ripped off all the time. The bars & grips are gonna take around 2-3 weeks......I'll post pics when I get them fitted...can't wait!! :tour

I like your springer seat....... does it work well with the shocks? Or are you gonna put struts on?

PIGGYP

I'm in the UK too, Southampton. The springer is only a dummy. We bolted the seat on at the front, welded 2 small bars for the back of the seat to sit on then covered them with the dummy springs because the electrics are bolted to the bottom of the seat. I am going to leave the shocks as they are for now and have another look in the winter. Show your new bars in this post when they are fitted. I'm not sure I want to stick with the Apes. I think it takes away the retro look. Has this guy got a web site wher you're getting your bars from ?

The seat is the HD brawler seat and it brings you back a little but for me it's much more comfortable. It molds to your butt and gives you a really firm grip. Before I slid forward in the stock seat. My friend, leonc69, and I put everything on. He had more experience with installing such things than I did. Good Job Nightkid3. I reckon the only thing left to do is black out the engine a bit. I think Nightsters should come as black standard. Yours is one of the best i've seen. I may go with the Whitewalls when I renew my tyres. I've got 5000 miles coming up on my 07.

Hi Nightkid3
I love it all.
You can't get enough flat black for me. I like the strip of gloss black running down the spine. Nice detail.

I love those bars. Is it a comfortable ride on the arms?

I suggest side covers go flat black like the Iron 883 but other than that It's just right.
You'll always find something.

Good job!! You should be proud.

I picked it up on ebay from this fellow: http://motors.shop.ebay.com/merchant/bp-powdercoating_W0QQ_nkwZQQ_armrsZ1QQ_fromZ

I don't know the manufacturer, and if I recall correctly, it ran me about $70. The trim ring is from my stock headlight. Cheers.

08nightmare,

I dig the looks of that air cleaner, did you paint that AC cover black or did you find one in black? Also, is it pretty much a straight bolt on deal or did you need any extra adapters/attachments? I was thinking about the SE heavy breather for mine but really like the looks of yours, plus the $200+ difference in cost... Thanks.

I'd start a new thread if I could (too new?) to ask this question.

What are the differences between the Nightster and the Iron 883? I'm a metric rider but the Iron 883 caught my eye last month so I'm tryin to get to know it and the Nightster.

Differences

Paint
Engine color
Engine size
Seat
Handle bars
Price

What else am I missing?

Well if you look closely at the HD site.....what you said and mufflers, wheels, front fender, belt guard, seat, rear pulley, black rocker covers (versus satin on 1200N), 883 trim on air filter cover :D

Hey Cosmo, I'll reply.

I too have rode metrics until my first Harley purchase of the Nightster.

I rode a Nightster at a dealership a year ago and went off and bought the Star Raider a 1900cc rocket ship, fastest in it's class.

However, when I came back to viewing the Harley website after receiving an email from them I saw the Iron 883 and I was hooked. But after many weeks of calling dealers and visiting I realised the retail price Harley shows and the price the dealers want are two different things entirely. My metric shops would always deal some and were very fair on pricing without tagging on all the after prices for stupid stuff like assembly and shipping and document fees.
Bottom line is they pushed me off to the used market and I found a Nightie with 21 miles on it never ridden for half price of new.

As for the Iron, it's basically a Nightie but a smaller CC.
If you ride small bikes now, say 900 and down the 883 would suite you just fine.
Be aware though that the Iron and Nightie have no suspension. You will get beat up. What are you used to riding?
I've owned M50 Boulevard 805cc (bought new) a Star Roadliner 1900cc (bought with 800 miles on her) a Vulcan Nomad 1600, still riding her thousands of miles per year (bought her new in August of 2007) she has more good vibrations at 50-70 than the Nightie does too. A Star Raider 1900cc bought her new and a Vulcan 805cc Drifter (like an Indian but better, much better).
Therefore, I can discuss the metrics with you and compare suspension and other things.

Let me know and we can discuss it from a metric perspective perhaps.

On the Iron I like the flat black components and more dark engine but that silver one looks like the Fonzi bike from Happy Days. I like it but wouldn't want it.
Bottom line is you must go ride it for at least 30 minutes or more before you buy it.
If you can pick up a used Nightie do that instead. Over all a more powerful bike and better resell I would guess.
Best,
Ken

To TheKid275: Couldn't tell. I bought it as is so I've never sat on the stock one. I do like the back support though, it really holds you in place during hard accelerations.

To Travaller: The dual gauges were bought and installed at the HD stealership, in Dubai.

The previous owner told me he had changed to the brawler seat because it was real leather and the stock one wasn't. He sustained that the leather seat was better in the heat. I do agree with Folkie in that it looks better than the stock one.

On the Brawler, only the part you sit on is leather; the bit around the back, with the Bar & Shield logo on it, is vinyl. This is quite sommon on seats adverised as 'leather'.

Hey bdorr67.

I love your bike. I must admit I've stumbled across your blog quite a few times. Being apart of The Fire Service myself, it really hits the spot.

Anyhow. Job well done.
