I got the points, clutch, and a/c covers from Extreme Custom Engraving (http://www.azece.com).
Hi, Nigel!
I'm looking at the site http://www.azece.com/orderpoints.htm right now, and all I see is "Not available for Sportsters" (?)
Am I looking at the wrong two-hole points covers page??
I can't find the info on any XL stuff....
Tom
In the 70s some scientist kept telling us
we were killing off 17,000 brain cells on a good night at the pub.
Back then I never thought I'd have need of them, but, man,
I sure could use some of them now!

Hi Tom,
"Not available for Sportsters" is an old message he's forgotten to remove, relating specifically to 2 hole points covers. The 2 hole points covers for Evo BTs didn't fit solid mount Sportsters: the holes were the wrong way around.
However, 2 hole Evo points covers are the same as '04+ Sportster points covers (holes horizontal). For those with older Sportsters (vertical holes), CAP will now make covers with the holes the right way around, just tell him what you want.
For the clutch covers, click on 'Sportster Derby Covers 6 And 4 Hole' or 'Sportster Covers' on the home page, or 'Billet Sportster Derby Covers' on the Derby Covers page.
As for Air cleaner covers, he makes covers for various aftermarket a/cs: the big round BT ones that some use, S&S, Big Suckers, Hyperchargers (these fit the new NRHS a/c).

From the Winding Stair Mtns in SE Okla. a couple weeks ago. Almost done with the bike. The windshield is on only on longer trips &/or the grasshoppers or butterflies are running rampant. They hurt!
It's not too far from stock, I suppose, but I dig it & it was comfortable for a 3k trip this past August.

Hi Tom,
...2 hole Evo points covers are the same as '04+ Sportster points covers (holes horizontal).
I ordered a Solid Brass Points Cover with the Celtic Knot
device on it. Black design on brass. :wonderlan
I was considering the brushed aluminium finish, but thought it might get lost down there. The brass will be a noticeable feature.
Hey, Nigel...tanks a lot.

What? It don't come wif screws? :(
Cap just wrote back to tell me he was sending me a free tea shirt. It's got a big Celtic design on the front. :wonderlan
Now I can take tea break at any biker bar in Canada, dressed in style.

Yes, they come with stainless steel screws.
I thought brass screws would look better, but didn't want slotted or Philips screws, which I didn't think would look right either. Which is probably why CAP doesn't supply brass screws. There's not much else available in countersunk brass screws, not that I've been able to find, anyway.
I managed to track down some 'spanner screws':

I bought some 1/2" washers/spacers, and put 2 on every bolt, but that was it. I also used a small motorcycle jack to get the frame up about 2 inches. I was told I could swap out the shocks with no jack at all, but that proved to not be the case, as there was waaaaaay too much tension on the bolts.

Ah, no worries. I paid $250 for them, that included shipping. They are used, you can check the place out at www.bitchinbaggers.com. I got the 11" so that I could just swap them out. I have yet to ride 2 up with these things, but I have a sneaking suspicion that it's gonna suck. The ride is already pretty rough, and that's with just me....but we'll see what happens

I had used mounts from Drag Specialties. Got them from Dennis kirk. Not sure what the PN was now since the bike will be gone almost a year. If you do a search I know it is in the archives somewhere though. If you happen to look through DS it is the smallest mount that keeps the signal closest to the forks.

hells yeah they're denim painted! check out the harley site. the olive green ones were denim, and the silver ones are denim. the all black ones are "vivid black" which is a glossy color, as well as the red/black and orange/black nightsters.

i really dig your tach kit mac, but im wondering. What on earth do you plan to do with that unsightly cable hanging there in the wind? it connects to what seems the most inconvenient spot on the engine, you'll have to pull some sort of houdini trick out of your ass! LOL . anyway i'm sure you'll figure something out, just let me know if you do, cuz i'm planning on putting the same kit on MY nighty.

It was relocated. I bought a cheap 5 3/4 headlamp from J&P and used the original HD headlight and ring.

Can you send me a link to the part you bought perrocallejero? I'm wanting to do the same thing and wondered if you could use all of the stock headlight assembly except for the bracket. I assume you just drilled a hold in the bottom tree and used the bracket you are talking about. Then, I assume you just turn everything in your stock headlight 180 degrees.

Perrocallejero, is your front wheel a rear Nightster wheel? If so, could you list what extras have been necessary to put it on? Nobody can tell me that, and it's an "upgrade" I'd like to do soon.
Of course, a new kit of trees is absolutely necessary for housing that monster wheel, but... what more?

Front wheel is DNA that I ordered through my local HD dealership. Triple trees are from vulcanworks.net. Front head light is a cheapo I bought from J&P cycles, I used the original HD light and ring and painted the main headlight cover black...HD wanted to charge me 200 bucks for a headlight. PM me if you have anymore questions.

Alright, posting mine again. A few more mods added.
Only things left to do: relocate the ignition coil and put a cover of some kind on it, powdercoat said coil cover as well as rocker boxes, pushrod covers, and seat springs to match my velocity stack, and do a wire tuck (or run my wires internally if I'm feeling as ambitious as Cosmo Kramer). Should pretty much do it. And maybe get some copper colored silicone sealant for my pipe wrap.
Anyway: Current incarnation:

As for the lost avatars, as I understand it, it is because the Forum is very short of space. Bert is about to move the Forum to a new bigger server, after which I imagine everyone will be able to have their own avatars again. If it's that important, you could always join as a paying member?

A NIGHTSER SIDEHACK! I love it! I've always liked the look of sidecar rigs, but I've not gotten around to owning
one myself. When I was a kid there was this guy with a very black Bimmer hack from the late '50s. He had a big spotlight w/ 2 handles on the back so the passenger could man it like a machine-gun.
They used to run it in nighttime sports car rallies. :wonderlan

yea it is easy to install. as long as you have a stand. just jack the bike up, take off the front wheel and slide down the stantion. it comes with butt connectors but i chose to solder the wires together, for a more secure connection. i really like how it retains the indicators. i did everything all at once but i would imagine it wont take more than 2 hours if you really take your time.

I risked it by just taking the weel off and free hand drilled it, but a lot of other people break the front end down and use a drill press.

I'm planning on doing that to mine before spring. I would like to get a headlight simular to the stock Nightster but with bottom mounting. Any tips on the drilling? Any suggestions on who to buy from?

well you could always take the stock headlight and make a custom headlight bracket out of the old one and just turn it upside down. Krypto (http://xlforum.net/vbportal/forums/member.php?u=25652) did it to his and it looks slick.

Howz the availability on the Nightster? I like one in blue but none of the dealers around me seem to have it. How long usually does it take to get the color you want? Does anyone have any recent experience? With slow sales one would think that they should have a full warehouse.

These are from Outlaw Cycle Products. The bars are 4.5" pullback and the same rise. FYI they will not work with the stock speedo, indicator light, or turn signal locations and also will not work with most inverted mirrors, a tank lift or wider tank. They make other sizes too and Harley has their own now.

hunter - i bought them from coker tires. They are the ANS style tires. The front is 4in tall so you can not run the front fender, even if you make small brackets to clear the tire, u have to worry about the suspension rebound and it might hit the lower triple tree. they look really good and i like them, but i havent really ridin with them as the weather has been really crappy since i got the bike home..
iiweldman - yea thats my other ride. i would post pics but this isnt the place for that..if you want to see a better one let me know and i will gladly send a few pics

Got the stage one installed and had to take it in for a new rear tire. I might add that it was only 36 degrees.

I run Hooker Headers Troublemakers and Screaming Eagle Heaver Breather on my '08 Nightster. Had a Crobra Fuel Processor and was putting out 74.28 HP and 73.28 ft lbs. of Torque on the dyno. Added 12' MINI Apes, Forward controls, rear seat, rear foot pegs, rack for traveling, fork bag, tank pouch. Swapped out the Cobra unit for the Harley Super Tuner and then put on the Dyno. She is now putting out 83.16 HP and 80.22 ft lbs. of Torque. What a differance

What passenger seat pillon is that? I've got an '07 nighty with the badlander seat, but I want to get the solo with pillon setup.

it looks like the mustang daytripper passenger pillon. but if you have the stock nightster solo seat you can get this kind of pillon on here [Link] (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Harley-Sportster-Passenger-Pillon-Seat-07-Up-Near-New_W0QQitemZ160407879493QQihZ006QQcategoryZ35566Q QssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem#ht_929wt_1043 ), it has a lot more cushion, the pillon, not the stock seat.

Yo, DaveP, that headlight mount is cleaver! I like it! Also, I knew that seat could work with the older nightsters, i had a little discussion at the dealership that anyone with some creativity could fit it on a older nightster, they tried to tell me it couldn't be done. Thanks for proving me right, looks great man!

Has anyone ever wondered why the HD lettering on the stock tank of the Nightster doesn't line up with the trim line? That really bugs me.

@Hildreth, The service department at my stealership told me that "no way" will the seat fit on a Nightster. Parts department told me different (figure that out). Bolted right up no problem whatsoever. Just need to relocate the ECM.
