Lets see all the Nightster's out there. Post your pics and let us know what kind of mods you have made. Even if its just bone stock lets see them. I think this thread will give many people looking to mod their own Nightster some great ideas and for those who have done their mods a great place to show off.

So to start this off. Here is a pic of my new 09. Just got it a few weeks ago. The only mods so far a 1/2 inch hole drilled through the baffle plug.

nightsterRyder,

You can go to photobucket.com and get a free account. Upload your pics there and when you post in the window where you write there is an icon which looks like a mountain. You will just need to click on the icon and then type in the url which photobucket will give once you upload your pic there. Hope this helps.

My bike has come a long way. I finally got it where I liked it and then got rear ended, not a week after the pinstriping was done. I just got it back a week ago and snapped a few quick pics. Doesn't quite do it justice.

Here it is after I got hit:

Which clamps did you use to re mount the lights to the forks? I was checking a few out but was not sure which one to get. BTW are the nightster forks 39mm or 41mm

I was was following your build on another thread. Your bike actually convinced me to buy a Nightster. I've been riding for 24 years and I just put a deposit down on my 1st Harley last weekend. I gotta admit I love these damn bikes.
Had they come out a year earlier and came in an 883 when I bought mine I would have been all over it.
None to worry, being a Sporty as it is, all the elements I like are merely bolt on and the things I don't use I would have changed on the Nightster anyway.
I'm still considering the N rims and front fender down the road.

Wow! I thought this thread might be kinda boring with the same old bikes, but as much as I’ve been trying to follow this forum – I haven’t seen half the bikes posted here. Some really incredible looking Nightsters man! Really inspirational. I haven’t seen a Nightster done as well as some of these new to me pics.

I wanted to soften mine up a bit for weekend trips and whatnot. Black Progressive 412s, Mustang Vintage Solo seat…..really help out the ride. Stage 1 mods: Black Vance and Hines Short Shots, Screamin’ Eagle A/C, and Vance and Hines Fuelpak. Diamond Black grips and pegs, Dark Customs derby/timer covers……black front, rear, and swing arm bolt covers.

I thought that I would be done with it, but I’m now tinkering with the idea of some drag bars with risers tall enough to bring them back to where my hands are now. I love the position of the stock bars, but they don’t look all that cool in my opinion.

Thanks,

1. They fit no problem. I think HD just says it as a discalimer because they are a lil bit longer than stock and they don't have feelers. And the bike being so low, it just covers their a$$ just in case someone scrapes them. But, you don't have to do anything special to fit them.

2. Yes, they are the RSD short stacks.

How well does the bag stay on? I have been wanting one of these but did not want to put a detach sissy bar on my bike. I actually like the look of the detach rack.

I wasn’t overly impressed with the straps and buckles that hold that bag on. I put a safety pin through the front strap just to make sure nothing let go.

I dig the detachable rack…..it’s certainly not cheap, but it’s nice to be able to just unclip it when I get where I’m going and not have to lug it around if I don’t want to.

maybe it's just me but are the N's the bikes that people are customizing the most?

I don't know about "most" but there are definitely a lot more being done lately.
Now that they've been around a few years they have finally come into their own.
People have had some time to look them over and apply some imagination plus the aftermarket is finally catching up.
Although I'm not into every aspect of the N (I'm not into lowered bikes and I still prefer a traditional tail light), beautiful bikes they are.

Several bikes gave me ideas on what to do with a Cherry Bomb, James Hatfields bike "Widowmaker" was one. I drew something up and took it to a old friend who works @ a muffler shop here in town. This is what we came up with through a 12 pack of Bullits!!....:smoke

Thanks for the info!!

Fellow nightster enthusiasts:
I'm looking to add my own customized touches to my 07 nightster, but I'm new to the mechanical end of customizing and don't want to get in over my head. I am very good with following schematics and diagrams and I'm not afraid to do my own work, but I don't want to make modifications which could effect my engine performance until I get some advice from riders/grease monkeys who have been there done that. I did buy the service manual from the HD stealer. Here's my dilemma. I want to swap out my exhaust and would love an RB 2 into 1 exhaust, unfortunately this would clean out my budget leaving nothing for an upgraded air cleaner or PCIII. Is it absolutely necessary to upgrade the AC and add a PCIII when swapping with an after market exhaust, or should I just go to the dealership and have the bike "remapped" for the correct air fuel mixture? I can always go with a Supertrapp 2 into 1 which will save me enough at least for a PCIII. What do you guys think?

Buy the pipes, get a 1 meg ohm resistor with 1/4Watt and 1% tolerance then buy mooneyes aircleaner ($30 or so). You might have to modify to fit though. Save you oney and buy PC3 later. You can enrich the setting with these resistors...

Cheers..

19th November 2008, 12:08
Hey volitile, if you think the wrap wont look good you could got the same route i did, with a little prep work and some patients it looks really good, pull off you heat sheilds and sand the crap out of them with some fine grit sand paper, 180 or 200 should be enough, then get either some high temp paint or the actual exhaust paint they sell at autozone and spray em down, pull of the mufflers and reapeat the same process, just be sure to skuff up the chrome real good and wipe them down with some alcahol or degreasing agent, i did this to mine back in july and it has held up really well, no chipping at all and it'll let you save up the bucks till you can get what you really want.

First off I'd like to say nice bikes guys! Some really inspirational rides there! Got my head goin all different kinda directions. LOL! Keep em comin!

Hey Volatile. I am/was running the chrome V&H staggered shortshots, but liked the look of the black set which came out after I had purchased the others. I took my heat shields off and took them to work where we have a sandblaster with very very fine medium. Like talc almost. I blasted them with that and it didn't remove the chrome but took the shine off making them look light gray. I then gave them 3 thin coats of BBQ paint. They look great and after two seasons are really holding up well. Better in fact than the factory paint on the tins, lol! Looks nice with the chrome tips of the pipes coming out the ends about 1/4".

I'm sure you can find someone to blast them like that for you. It only took 15 or 20 minutes, so I can't see where it would cost you that much. The BBQ paint was about $3.00.
If you like the look of the wrap I don't see why you can't do that either. Nothing ventured.......:smoke

Heres what im runnin with so far, I actually have the pipes off today to wrap them with the black heat wrap (If I can figure out what to do about those damned clamps by the slip-ons!) I have a new WCC rear fender that should be in anyday. Once it arrives, Im going to chop the rear struts. Ive ordered a wide glide conversion kit for the front end, and shuold have that on within the next 10-14 days..and finally, Im going to a chain drive so I can slip a 180 rear into it.

Cheers,

I have the same problem, I got my 09 Nightster 2 weeks ago, would love to put some pictures of it on this site but I havent posted enough messages.
I do however love this particular post as it is relevant to my bike, I have done a few things to my bike but nothing major as some of my parts are still on the way. Will post pictures of it as soon as soon as I get enough milage on my post. :laugh.
Keep posting pictures so i can admire everyone elses nightsters. Good job everyone.:clap

i like the "z" bars personally. how's the ride with the struts and no springer seat? what are some differences that you notice as far as with and with out shocks? just curious

TheLAW
4th February 2009, 19:23
The ride is really pretty good.....of course it helps to run 20 psi in a rear tire that big as well.

I truly like the rigid/strut option better than the shocks. Yes, the ride is more comfortable with the progressives, but damn.......that slammed look and the raw feeling of the road is sweet.

I want to ride something nasty and loud.....not something cushy and calm. Thus, I have what I have. Not to say the other is "bad"......just not for me right now....one of these days, maybe......but not right now!

Well, here’s mine. I friend and I both bought 1200Ns last October and have been tinkering with them over the winter. Last night about 7PM, we finished out winter projects and went for a very enjoyable ride around Tulsa. There for a while, I thought I might have made a mistake buying a Nightster (being 200 plus lbs and 6' 2”), but that all changed after I got the bars and forwards on. I’ve owned numerous bikes since 86”, but this is my first Harley and it’s been the “fun-est” bike I’ve ever owned.

I wanted to say thanks to xlfourm and it’s members; a ton of you answered my newbie questions and I got a lot of ideas for my bike off of you guys. Thanks anitasanger for making me do the wire extention myself (yes, I wanted to give up and pay someone to do it) :madtwo:headbang

In a nutshell, this is what I’ve done:

Intake/Exhaust: Samson Streetsweepers, V&H Fuelpak and Roland Sands Venturi Intake.
Handle Bars: Lick’s Fatty 12” Z’s
Seat: LePera Silhouette
Forwards/Pegs/Grips/Cables – Harley
Covers – Harley Dark Custom – I’ve taken some flak for putting these on, but they remind me of Evil Kinievel and when I started to love motorcycles…. I dig em’

Papa- Thanks. I actually first saw the HD forwards on your bike; your bike's awesome. As far as the Venturi goes... I've only got a couple hundred miles on it; no issues yet. You basically apply liquid gasket to a chamber that completely encloses the breather bolts. Hopefully I sealed that well enough.

Thats the bike as she sits. There is a lot of blacked out hardware etc. I painted just about every raw bolt with black paint, steady hand, small brush, and lots of patience. Its all good, before I bought the bike I printed a pic of stock bike, and went to town with my kids markers. The vision has come to life, other than the intake has to go.

the image posting attachment feature of this site sux.Don't bother with attachments, they're a waste of time. Just post your pics straight into the post.

Just put the url of the pic between and tags.

I think it's the badlander, but i'm not 100% sure. It's...pretty thin. Tough to say, I don't have enough time on it yet.

I posted earlier and there are still some things that I want to do to the bike, but this is how it sits now after the solo-seat install.

I dig em’

Well Tulsa...I'm over by Muskogee around Lake Tenkiller...I have a Nightster, a buddy has an 883 Iron...couple other sportsters around...let me know if you guys ever make it this way!

An Okie from Muskogee.... Sorry, I couldn't resist :frownthre

Sounds good! We'll need to plan a good backroads trip in your direction. As long as the weather holds out, I think we are gonna head towards Tahlequah this weekend. Congrats on the bike! Love those tins.

Okay what is the rag tied to the fork for??

IIRC that's a home painted tank and he doesn't like getting gas on it, hence the rag. For quick cleanups if need be.

I rode in Tahlequah Sunday...bout froze to death...me and the girl might make a trip over that way again on Saturday...we're heading to Ft. Smith to Old Fort Harley for a little look around, then may just head up that way...T-Quah is about 25 mins from my house by the lake.

You're not the only one, lol. I keep a bandana on the bars just in case of spills or rain, lol, but I usually don't have it on there when taking pics.

It's been a while since I've been on the forum here, there are some great pics posted!

I've had my bike for almost 2 years now and it only gets better with every ride. No regrets with the Rinehart slip-ons in case anyone is trying to decide out there.

Keep the pics coming......:clap
