I think it would add to the safety factor. I already have installed Kuryakyn LED front and back turn signals (and the load equalizers) but the back ones just replaced the stock bulbs and don't do anything except signal a right or left turn. This gizmo makes them dim for running, bright (either flash or not) for braking and blink on/off for turn signaling. Just wondered if anyone has this, how you like it and if there's enough room under the seat to install it?

I have the one for the front and it was an easy install and works great. I'm sure the rear one would be just as good. Make note of the extra 8-pin thingy needed for 04 Sportsters.....

Luxblue, I installed the Panacea tail light (which comes with the control module), plus the led lights. It looks and works great. When you hit the brakes, the tail light and turn signals flash 3 times quickly before going to steady bright, the turn signals double as running lights, and the panacea tail light also has flashes arrows for right/left turns. There is barely room under the seat for the module. The issue I ran into is that the module doesn't fit with the wiring harness out of the box. The panacea tail light said it worked for 04 and above sportys, but Kuryakyn left out a 6 to 8 pin plug adapter ($15). Once that arrived it plugged right in. The only challenge at that point was getting everything to fit under the seat.

I have the HD unit. One of the few things I got from HD. $46.

Thanks for the replies and the heads up for the 6 to 8 pin adapter, I see it says you need one in the instructions. Since I already have the LED signals I used up a lot of room under the seat for the load equalizer resistors. That's my concern, it's awfully busy under the seat now. How big is this module? Can it squueze in next to the ICM?

Got a part # for the H-D unit?

Thanks! I'll look into it. H-D unit is $46, Kuryakyn wants $70 + $13 for adapter.

Hd #68286-04

Thats not with the run light option...

69463-06 has all 3 RUN-BRAKE-SIGNAL

Thats what I run and its badazz compared to about $80 to use the KUKY one on the 04 and later sporties

Thanks, I just called the dealer. the 68286-04 part is being replaced by the 69463-06 part, he has one in stock and I'm stopping by to check it out after work. I love this forum!:xlrocks

cool

Youll dig it.

The running lamps are clearly visibible in the day and you can be seen far down the road at night.

I like it alot...and my gurl does too cause I have a bad habit of leaving her in the dust...ya know I gotta "blow the smoke out of it".

I have the kurkalyn with the pulse/flashing brake option. I wound up disabling the flash cause it was too slow. To be effective in getting drivers attention it is supposed to flash more rapidly. I went back to doing it myself.

I have the H-D 69463-06 Brake and Turn Signal Module. I stuffed it under the ICM while taking care not to bend the connectors at 180 degree angles. There is just no extra room but it is doable and is otherwise plug and play easy! It doesn't light up the turn signals that much when braking but it is better than the single brake light. I'm wondering if I should have bought the H-D LED kit that has the LEDs in the replacement turn signal stocks? Still, I'm keeping these on as it has to be safer than just one brake lamp and they look great besides.
Let me add something. At night I think that they are quite visible but not as much during the day.

I have this and it works great. The unit does not take up that much room the most room it takes up is the white connectors that plug into the factory harness. the rest is all pretty flat so it can be stuffed somewear pretty easily.
I also have the kuryakyn mini LED silver bullets front and back so this also shows how it looks with the LED's

here is a video of mine and how they work.

I installed mine a year ago, unit fit under the seat with no problem. very easy to install once you have the adaptor harness. I didnt install the flash aspect because cagers a stupid to begin with and it will only confuse them more.

The extra lighting in the rear is great at night. Well worth the money spent.

Thought I'd let everyone know I installed the H-D unit, part # 68286-04. The only problem I had was the load equalizer resistors I had installed for my Kuryakyn LEDs were attached to the pigtail feeding back to the rear lights after the connector under the seat. When I plugged the unit in the first time the load resistors heated up quickly because the rear turn signal lamps had voltage to them all the time and so did the resistors! I removed the resistors, patched and heat shrunk where they were spliced in the harness and then solder spliced them into the 68286-04 pigtail that inserts into the connector towards the front of the bike. That way the flashers work properly but the load resistors only carry current while the associated turn signal is on. The "box" part of the unit I wire tied to the strap that holds down the battery. There's enough length then to feed the pigtails under the frame and reach the connectors. I stuffed the load equalizer resistors in front of the ICM. Seat fits OK! I like the way it works although there's not a lot off difference between the brightness of the LEDs running vs. braking. But it does make a big difference having 3 tail lights compared to one! Turn signals and 4 ways work great! All in all, I'm glad I did it. Thanks for all the info and opinions. :banana

I have the HD unit too. As far as Im aware though it only turns the signals into brake lights but not running lights. However, it was a pain to find a workable location under the seat; very tight fit. The Kuryakyn unit looks like it would resolve the tight fit problem.

Hey everybody...I screwed up my last post. The part I installed was # 69463-06, not # 68286-04. That unit replaces the old one and offers running lights as well. I think Sojo must have the # 68286-04 unit since he doesn't have running lights. According to the dealer the # 68286-04 is not made any more.

I was just nosing around the web looking for a schematic on how that converter circuit works. Probably uses some steering diodes in the module. Anybody know what's in that circuit? While doing that I found this.....same idea, priced in between the H-D and Kuryakyn models.

Well, now Im not sure if the system I bought will allow for running lights or not. I just bought and installed the unit a month ago. I wonder if the dealer sold me an old one, or perhaps I need to use different light bulbs. Thanks for the info LB. I will check with the dealer.

Fa sho

If you dont have running lights then you have a different module.

There is no adjustment or switches or even different bulbs required.

You got hosed Tommy...

Well if so its not the first time and probably won't be the last, but thanks for pointing it out. The additional visibility when breaking is a plus though.

No doubt...

My main thing is that I wanted to appear bigger at night.

BUT

I thing the non running light model would grab more attention when the brakes are applied due to the sudden change in appearance.

I think the reason they upgraded the module was to add the running light deal. According to my parts guy the # 69463-06 replaces the # 68286-04 which no longer is made. Nothing wrong with the old design as far as adding more brake lights. So far I'm happy with the new setup. Looks cool and is much more visible.

I had designed an electronic unit to do what these units do. It worked on the bench, except I neglected to think about having two separate turn signals and it would have run both turn signals regardless of which signal I switched on, I just plain goofed. I got tired of it and cheated.
I replaced the single filament socket and bulb (1156) in the turn signals with a dual filament socket and bulb (1157). I ran the extra wire through the turn signal wiring jacket and wired the extra filament(s) to the tail light. Seems to be OK, I'm just keeping an eye on electrical drain and charging.
The only "careful" part was drilling out the flared metal holding the old sockets in and then drilling and tapping those studs in the turn signal housing.

For the sockets, I found a universal "snap-in" that had enough extra metal that I re-formed to match the mounting tabs on the original.
I think it looks great and I really like the "extra" light in back now.

Total cost - $12.00 and about three hours of fun wrenching and wiring.

Regards,
