View Full Version : Left turn signal doesn't flash??
E00i3 15th August 2006, 18:22 I have noticed that my left turn signal doesn't flash anymore. My right signal doesn't have this problem. I installed the HD module that turns your rear turn signals to brake lights a while back, and everything was working great until just recently it started failing. My question is would a bad bulb cause this to happen? Kinda like on the high beams, your low beam can be completely gone, but your high beams will work. Anyhow, I am gonna fool around with the module and make the cables are not bent in every direction. That may have something to do with it.
Thanks,
ed
indyrednek 15th August 2006, 18:29 More than likely will be a bad bulb.
bplinson 15th August 2006, 19:01 Don't mess with the module or cables. Do the quick fix first and change the bulb. Costs less than a dollar at your local auto parts store.
gusotto 15th August 2006, 19:06 You don't have to buy a new bulb to troubleshoot. Just swap the bulbs in the rear. Left to right, right to left socket. See if the trouble follows (you have a bad bulb) or stays bad on the left light.
You might have a defective module from Harley. Remove it and put the lights back to stock. If the left light starts to work, you've proved the module to be defective and take it back for a good one.

Does Ducati go better with red whine..or white?

E00i3 15th August 2006, 22:10 Thanks for the input.. I am hitting the turn signal!! LOL I will do some more troubleshooting tonight once i get home.
Thanks,
Ed
Gary 16th August 2006, 02:11 The not flashing thing is what usually happens when you have a bulb out... when the turn signal module detects a low current draw (as if one bulb was blown) then it lights solid. I think this is a safety feature to let the rider know they have a blown bulb
BUT that theory kind of goes out the window with a rear end brake light module. The transistors in that have a high input impedance by there nature, and if left alone the turn signal module would never flash. So the designers of the rear end brake light module added a load resistor in it to make it draw more current as if it were a light bulb. With this module inpace you should be able to remove one of the rear bulbs and the fronts would still blink (disclaimer: I'm more familiar with the Kuryakyln unit than the HD one).
Anyway if your front bulb is okay, you may have a broken load resistor in the rear end brake module. That isn't really fixable. So I guess where I'm going is that I'd trouble shoot in this order....
1) Swap the left and right front bulbs. If the problem switches sides, then you have a bad front bulb otherwise...
2) Remove the brake light module. If the problem goes away you have a bad brake module, otherwise...
3) Swap the rear bulbs. If the problem switches sides you have a bad rear bulb, otherwise...
4) If the bulbs on the non blinking side are both on, then you probably have a bad turn signal module or if one bulb is off you most likely have a broken turn signal wire or connector.

Gary's always good for the inside sheat on the electrics.... :laugh
You Da Man! :clap
joesporty 16th August 2006, 04:55 i had the same problem, except mine did that after removing the saddle bags, after about 15 minutes of scratching my head and swearing i checked the wires underneath the rear fender had a nick it the wire. removed the bad spot and its been working every since...im with gary check the wires
Gary 16th August 2006, 05:50 ...underneath the rear fender had a nick it the wire. removed the bad spot and its been working every since...im with gary check the wiresYep, that's my step 4, but that shouldn't act the same with the rear brake module in there. That's why I recommeneded that you take the brake light module out before you start looking at he rear end bulbs and the wiring.

E00i3 17th August 2006, 06:40 Well it was the module. I disconnected it and reconnected it without the module and it worked. I did notice my front left bulb was not looking too good, so I replaced it anyway. I put the module back and it started working again. I then started to move module and its connects a little and the turn signal stopped blinking. So I moved the connectors around a bit and tucked them under some other wiring then i checked the blinkers again and they were working. So I just zipped tied it in place and cross my fingers it does freak out on me again. I think the module can't handle the bumps very well. So hopefully my zip tie will do the trick. Also I zipped tied the module and the not wires/connectors. I noticed that they were originally zipped tied really tight. Anyhow see what happens. If I have to, I can just return it to Harley, or but another and return the defective one. Anyhow thanks for the tips guys!
