Has anyone relocated their turn signals from the handlebar to the forks on their '04 & up Sporty, and how did the job turn out? (wire routing, etc.) Do you think that visibility is reduced or enhanced by oncoming traffic?

I did it on my '03, I don't think that anything has changed in the wiring in regards to the turn signals in the '04s. I don't think it effects visibility at all, some models still come from the factory with the turn signals on the forks.

Before you buy the relocation kit, check out some of the prices at Drag Specialities, Custom Chrome or on EBay. There were a couple threads on the old site about prices and I think all three of those resources were cheaper than the factory kit. I bought mine from DS, for about $25. You want the clamps for a 39mm fork.

The only things that you want to worry about for the wiring are the cable length and the routing to the right side.

The cable is going to be about 7" (or 11", I can't remember) longer than you need to reach the new location. It can be a pain to wrap that much cable up under your gas tank, so you'd be better off cutting a section out of the cables and splicing the ends back together. Do the splice under the gas tank so you can't see the shrink tube that you put over the splice. Don't be afraid to remove the gas tank, it comes off real easy, two bolts, a ground wire and three hoses. It will be much easier with the tank out of your way.

The right side turn signal is a little bit of a pain because the turn signal will not fit between the fork tubes and the steering column. That makes routing the wires more difficult, unless of course you are cutting them to remove the extra section of wire. Moral of the story is if you cut the wires, splice them after you position the right turn signal, dont splice everything back together on the workbench then try to fit the turn signal between the fork and steering column (like I did) :o or you'll probably just end up redoing one of the splices.

I did it. And I'll sell ya the brackets and chrome bolts if ya want. I bought a passing light kit and will be putting them on those. I think I paid about 30 with the bolts. They are the short ones. You can have for 25 shipped. You can see them here.

Thanks for the input, guys.

Barry, don't hold those for me, but thanks for the offer. Still collecting nickels & dimes as well as putting together a plan for everything I want to do with the scoot.

Ok. I hadn't planned on selling them right away but if someone wants them I will. No problem.
