willprevale 3rd March 2005, 07:36 Damn! He's even got dual carbs on it. :clap That's one nice machine put together by one of the greats of our time.
Desertfox 3rd March 2005, 10:30 WOW!!! Like to see the performance specs on it. For that kind of money that's no toy. Strictly professional set up. Have to MAKE money with that bad boy. :laugh :laugh
GRAYFEATHER 3rd March 2005, 12:00 Love the twin carb look
Grayfeather.
883Hugger 3rd March 2005, 15:36 Wow, thats great...I want one!!!!
DLM32 3rd March 2005, 15:39 :D Mert was the AMA National Champion in 1969. He won it in the era when you had score points in dirt track(mile, short track, TT), and roadracing to be the National champion. He' a master tuner/frame builder for the H-D XR750. Many of the current dirt track stars have been helped along the way by Mert.
His custom Sporty is about as close to an XR750 street bike as you can get! Sweet! Now if I just had an extra $25 grand.:clap
raysheen 3rd March 2005, 15:52 probably sounds weird, but I actually like the battery just stuck to the side of the bike like that! Love the carbs and exhaust!
Phil R 3rd March 2005, 16:00 Pretty tempting! I emailed them about price and availability. Price is now $30,000 with $15,000 up front. 3 or 4 sold so far.
collinsb 4th March 2005, 16:47 Copy and paste From the Mert Lawwill website:
The 2005 Lawwill Street Tracker starts life as a stock 1,200cc Harley Davidson Sportster. The only thing saved from the frame is the mounting lugs for the rubber engine mounts and the serial number off the steering head. The frame is a completely custom hand built 4130 chrome molly frame that is designed around The "Lawwill Patented Rear Suspension System". Jim Belland builds the frame while Mert puts together the swingarms. The swingarms are welded by MC Products near Portland Oregon. The swingarms are then heat treated to 6061-T6. There are numerous unique CNC parts throughout the bike that are all made by DKG in San Rafael CA.
The motor: The street tracker uses special new heads cast by S.T.D. in southern California that put the exhaust ports on the left side and the intake on the right side to mimic the XR 750cc flat tracker. Modern "D" shaped ports are installed and duel 38mm carburetors are added. The relocated intake ports have dramatically better flow than the stock ports. An Andrews cam set that is designed especially for the street tracker series replaces the stock cams. A Harley Davidson Screaming Eagle full race ignition system, and a full race Super Trapp stainless steel exhaust system is installed.
The standard handle bars, electric controls and stock Harley Davidson wiring system is used to keep the bike easily serviceable at any harley Davidson dealer.
Light weight Buell forks are used along with Brembo calipers for the brakes and 19" flat track style wheels are used and fitted with Maxxis dirt track tires that use a special road racing compound. The gas tank is a slightly oversize unit that carries a full 3.5 gallons.
Lastly the Harley Davidson name plate on the side of the engine is removed and replaced with our own special S
Jason's Sporty 24th March 2005, 03:10 Hey its still cheaper than the $50,000 for used Vr1000's and this is fully street legal too.
txsporty 24th March 2005, 03:27 That's one nice Scoot!!! :clap :clap
The only thing I'd change would be to put Drag Bars on!!! :D
Chavet Frank 11th February 2006, 10:19 hello to everybody
as I am gooing on with my project of building a XR flat tracker ,I have a big hesitation with the size of the carb . Rev Perf is supplying a 48 mm carb which seems very big to me so I asked them to change for a 42 mm, I am trying to tune the engine to get the torque at the lowest rev as possible,as I don't care too much about power at high rev
I have noticed that the Lawwill bike is fitted with a 38 mm carb.does somebody have an idea about the correct size of the carb for this XR 1250 kit
thank's for any advice
Frank Chavet
Shu 11th February 2006, 10:56 a 42 is typically plenty to flow a 1250. However, since you are going with two carb, IMO I would do two smaller carbs so you don't have to lean them out as much
BTW, I DO NOT like the battery on the side...looks like an afterthought to me
dodgenbullets 4th October 2006, 04:20 On Mert's web site, The bike is said to be easly serviced at any Harley Dealership. They have trouble servicing my bike. I can only imagine.....:roflblack
The bike is a real eye catcher, I bet the performance gets the heart pounding as well. What a ride.
rodhotter 6th October 2006, 14:40 when you consider the $$$$$ harley gets for their good looking , average performance ,LOOOOOW TECH bikes its not bad, look at all the buell gives for the money, great stop and go power, low weight, and GOOD PRICE ,this is a high tech ride ,i would like a sportster with more of these attributes with an upright comfortable riding position
