Anyone know if the sportsters can support an aftermarket headlight like headwinds or some other chopper style headlight? I have a '96 883.

My sportster (1996) has a hole drilled into the cross support of the forks. I just bolted my new headlight to it. There is the issue of the gang plugs in your headlight, I had to cut them out and wire them together. I am not sur if I have a pic, but i will look....

BTW, that will leave a big hole where your headlight cover goes. Some people wont like the look at the top where the old headlight bolted on. I am trying to find a chrome cover from a 2000 thast will fit it and cover that up...

yeah I was wondering about that. the space where the stock headlight is now. what to do with that is a good question.

I don't have any pics of headlights yet, i was just wondering if we could do it. I was thinking about the hole to be drilled, but was afraid I would weaken the fork brace...

Where did all the wires that were in the stock light go on yours?

I went with a 7" headlight side mounted to the forks. I used brackets from a Suzuki. I also got a black plastic box from Radio Shack to put some of the wires in, and wire tied it back behind the headlight (other wires and connectors fit nicely in the headlight shell). The black box is not even noticable (but my bike is orange and black, so I have lots of black pieces already on the bike). I also got rid of the "eyebrow" with this arrangement. It looks sort of old school - I like it and have had good comments on it.

The installation was real easy once I figured out what parts I needed, so you shouldn't have any problems with whatever light you decide on.
