Remember on the old site I posted a thread about my 3rd and 4th gears whining.

and months after I thought the thread had died a very nice person called "Dramonas" posted and led me to look more closely at the manual paying particular attention to the "split bearings" that seem to be dotted about the place. So after the fight with the sprocket nut I managed to extract the tranny.

Very nice it is too no broken teeth not much wear either....apart from the gears in question which run on these so called split bearings.. they wobble a bit, so I stripped down the tranny as far as the first split bearing I could get to, to see what all the fuss was about, an' all it is, is a needle roller setup in a.............PLASTIC CAGE awww!! come on a plastic cage, I ask ya.
Any how, I didn't come this far for nothing so I'm gonna change them all, at a fiver a piece I'd be daft not to...

So I'll keep you posted, now my fingertips hurt so bye for now :D

if it's an early 5 speed ya wont fix it...the problem is in the gear profile.....you can help it a bit by getting the primary chain tension correct...but that's it ya gotta live with it.
