Still trying to fiqure out what bars I like and looked at some at the dealer just to get a feel and the sales guy said you can put any bars on that they all fit. Yet when I asked the service guy, he said no. Can you bolt on any style such as a softail bar? I have a 2004 1200 custom. Other than cable can they just bolt on to the stock risers? :feedback

Artie

Any 1" bar will clamp on!!! Cables will depend on height, width, etc..

:chop My service guy told me any bar fits. I just put on Dyna Wide Glide FX bars and they look great. Had to order cables 3 inches longer and the front brake cable had to be custom made. A lady had her ride in at the same time as mine, and put on full apes along with short shocks to give her ride a chopper style look. The bars are cheap, it's the cables that will set you back.

Your right Dar, in my quest for the perfect bar it seems cables are the cost. Do you suggest getting from dealer or aftermarket as far as quality? I know the price will be higher from the dealer.

I priced both aftermarket and dealer, and found cables (braided metal) close when considering aftermarket shipping cost versus Texas state sales tax (8.25%). Cable cost savings in aftermarket was about 5% less, but my problem was the custom making of the front brake line, and some parts took two weeks to come in. Neither HD or aftermarket would work for the brake line. Another set of bars that look great are the Dyna Heritage bars.......more of an ape look. I did however learn a HD secret, don't buy your parts at the parts counter and then have HD install them. Let service buy the parts, though you take the chance that not all parts are in stock. The HD Parts Dept. markup is more than the Service Dept. markup. The service manger told me I would have saved 10% doing everthing through service. :(

Both of my bikes have similar pull-back style bars. One set [Ironhead] is about 28" wide. Those on the EVO are 26". The 28" is a better ride.

I needed a touch more rise and pull back after I installed my Mustang Solo on 04/883 and used the V-rod p/n 55988-04. It gave me about 1.5" up and 1.5" back and maybe an inch total on the width. They look pretty stock unless you are parked next to a stock bike. The brake cable needed a little "tweek" but it works till replaced with a braided one.
