Next comes my sporty looking seat. I have one ready to go. I almost slid off that sucker the other day when I was messing around and hitting the throttle without preparing for the slide. I am going to mount the flyscreen tomorrow.

looks good on that wide-glide front end.

Looks good Ralph, you won't have to cut your flyscreen now. I don't know if the attach brackets are the same for your screen and mine but I will get a pic of them tomorrow if you like. The brackets have special rubber mounted captive nuts to keep the screen from cracking, you should be able to pick them up from a Buell dealer cheap.

I am still toying with the alien cateye or some ducati dual lights. This is what I have for now. I also like the refector tyle and that might eventually be the one that stays. Just playing right now. They look really cool from the side. The count can be used for the small projector lights as well.

Ralph you do exceptional work, i feel a 4.5 Adjure or Headwinds single light would suite your bike style better IMHO.

Although those Cateyes would be kewl as hell with the flyscreen.:D :D :D

As much as I like much of what you do Ralph, I like the single light better. I'm not oppossed to duals or alternative lights for sure but on the bike the way you have it I just think the single looks better.

Looks good Ralphie....but be cautious at night. Cagers see those dual lights and think its another cager further away. You'll be cut off pretty regular.....but that's just another 2 cents out of Pirate's booty.

Dual lights look best with the wide glide front end. Your paint scheme matches well with the lights!

Definitely nice!

OK ralph, My 2 cents worth...........
I really like the lights. They look great between the forks.
IMO though, those risers are just too much.
I think the whole front end would look so much better if you got rid of them, and lowered your bars, especially how you have the rest of the bike set up. Also, I think the flyscreen would look and fit better as well.
just me,

I decided to order an alien cateye as well so I can see how it looks. I need the right light but the original never really did it for me(hey kev, it is a guzzi light. 6 inch round).

Overall I like.

I dig the functionality of more light, plus a backup if one bulb goes out.

Those pics make it look very different though from different angles.

in the 3/4 side view it looks great, very well balanced.

On the straight on view the lights look a little small which is making the front end look a little boxy (to many hard lines from the downtubes to the triple trees to the bar risers etc).

I think I'd like it better if the lights were both a little bigger, to break up the squareness of the front end.

It don't look to bad, I do like the single headlight alittle more though. But like said earlier it is nice to have a backup if the one bulb would burn out.

Well, they are wired up and on for now. I will drive it like this for a while and get a feel. It does not look how I pictured it so I am gonna let it sink in for a little while. I really like the mini projector ion lights and I will keep looking until I get exactly what I want. Maybe when the alien cateye arrives it is the one. here is the alien cateye. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140028486584&indexURL=0&photoDisplayType=2#ebayphotohosting

Like the look from the side better than the front view. Think that fatter tire you want may make the front look better as well. I have seen that alien light on bikes before and was going to get one for my bike but the bikes I saw it on didn't really look so good because the light looked to small for the bike. But they were texas choppers should get a different look on a sporty with it. Just curious which projector light you were talking about? Is it something like this:

I wondered what a dual headlight setup would look like on my bike-just to different. I found a pic of one a while back ago and asked a buddy of mine what he though. He said: NO I still think it would look good.
I prefer the dual light to the alien style. But until I see it on your bike, I'll reserve judgement.
Not feeling the flyscreen though, kind of had the same thought that the Preach had. But that's just my $0.02
What exhaust are you running now? It's hard to keep up with you, Ralph!

My 70 dollar ebay gold find. Supertrapp 2 into 1 brushed with 24 discs and open cap.(It had a buy it now with poor description, deided to buy it and see what it was. Looked like hell but the hiour I spent with the nylon rotary brush fixed it right up.). The fly screen is for over 80 riding. It is going to look just like I want it to. My bike needs it for speed.

Ralph,
Is your fly screen self-designed or store bought? Looks great with the twin headlights!

Also, are you venting the engine breather to just underneath the gas tank? How has that worked for you?
Regards,

You can get it on Ebay. It is carbon fiber modeled off the buell flyscreen. Just need to figure out how I will mount it. That should be easy enough.

Raplph,

The flyscreen definitely helps address the issue I raised before about them looking too small and the front end too square.

The alien eye light looks kinda cool. I'm VERY curious about how that's gonna look.

Heck, they're not too far from me, crap I coulda ridden out there to check it out for ya.

Keep us posted and THANKS!

Oh crap! I never even thought of that. Do you seriously think that's a concern? My daily rider has dual headlights stock. I've never had a problem, and I ride to work early in the morning when it is still dark.:) http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j176/twolaneblacktop/100_14862.jpg

It is actually kind of funny the dual headlight thing. Cars get out of the way when you come up on them on the highway at 80 or so. I think the single headlight of a harley equals slow to cars and duals equals fast and hence they get the hell out of the way.

Kev M
18th September 2006, 12:44
I was thinking about the dual-headlight thing and a car's perception on the dark ride to work this morning.

Thing is, from a distance, a car can always make an assumption.

Remember that probably most of them think we're a car with one headlight out (at least at first).

have used the dual headlight a few times on jap streetfighters...

Looked at usin it on the sporty but I sorta like the single one on the sporty.... looks more balanced..

Although if I go to an upside down front end I may look at different lights..

As to yours..... I'm with Kev... makes it lok a bit boxy... got a customer who's got a similar set up on his softail and I have the same opinion of that one... the carbon screen might be a bit much unless ya colour match the paint... carbon is a good look and I'm gonna try and use a heap of it on mine but it looks a bit added on on yours.... maybe if ya just did the copper flame over the carbon base to balance it in..

What wattage do you guys use?

I figure 2 55watt bulbs would wear on the battery pretty hard.

They are on ebay again. I was not able to make them it without having to hack up the expensive mount plate. I think a big buell light is what my bike needs with the 54mm inverted front end. Just looks tooooooo right on cjburrs bike.
