View Full Version : Best Deal for a Sporty...

I've noticed alot of posts of prices paid for their sporties. In July of 2004 I was riding a CBR and most of my buddies had Harleys. I was riding with a friend who had a softail standard one day in July, and he wanted to stop by one of the Harley Dealerships. I was sitting on alot of the bikes and really getting the fever. A 2004 1200 Custom caught my eye, and I couldn't stop looking at it or sitting on it :wonderlan I pretty much had my mind made up on getting this sporty. The salesman quoted me a price of 11 or $11,500 not for sure. I was new to the facts of the bike as far as pricing (etc.)

I left the dealership in search of the best deal possible on this bike. I called every dealership in Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas, Kansas, all within a week. The best deal I could get was for $10,500. I then decided to call other bike shops that dealt with HD but weren't strickly a HD dealer. Most places I called didn't deal with HD or the bike wasn't in stock.

Then, a day or two later I found this place in Bartlesville,OK which had HD's, Hondas, (etc). I called the place up and a guy named Levi answers the phone. I told him that I was looking for a 2004 1200 custom in vivid black, and was calling everyone for the best deal possible. Levi said, yeah I have that bike on the floor and was figuring up a price for me. Then he said I can let you have this bike for $9,000 dollars. I was like :yikes asking him "are you sure it's a 2004 1200 Custom in vivid black?" He assured me it was and I was still in denial.

I ended up driving three hours and picked up my first Sporty. I remember walking in the dealership and seeing my bike parked on the showroom floor with my name on the seat stating it was sold. I purchased the bike for the price stated and financed with a local bank for 6.9 interest.

I wanted to share my story in the hope that someone here may be looking for a new sporty and get a great deal on it. Every price I've seen posted here has been $1,000 to $1,500 dollars more than what they are selling them for where I got mine.

Here is the website for the dealership http://www.bartlesvillecyclesports.com/default.asp?sid=09912073X3K6K2005J2I29I46JPMQ999R0

look at the current specials link on the webpage and it will show a few of the prices of the bikes they have, and I'm sure you can get the price lower than what it shows.

I hope this helps someone out, and let me know if you have any questions. I'd love to hear anyones story and if they have seen better prices.

Oh, and it's been in the 70's here and I've been doing ALOT of riding WOOOHOO. Sorry, didn't mean to rub it in for you guys up North :smoke

Last week a friend call me and said that he found a black 1200 custom for 9k. Here in Memphis black customs are 9500(incl prep and setup). A 2-tone runs about 10,400. Congrates on getting a good price.

Looks like that's about the bottom dollar for the customs. It's impossible to get that price at the dealers in Oklahoma and surrounding states though. Owell, - my business I guess

Garman,
why dont you gice Chicago HD a call and see what shipping charges would be. If you pay $5000 dollars to ship it but get it for half the price its still a better deal.

Our countryside and mountains are truly beatiful, the air is clean and the people are friendly. I love my country, no question, but the prices (read taxes) on cars and motorcycles..

But I'm still buying, so I guess I feel it's still worth it. Picking my bike up in 7 days :D

Oh, but this the mighty taxman has thought of a long time ago. A used bike however, say 8-10 yrs. or older, I could actually buy in the US and ship home and still save some money. A lot of guys do that, especially if they need a bike for a custom project or something.

That is US currency Xena. At the moment, one US dollar = 6,7 NKR (norwegian kroner). I am paying 120000 NKR for my bike, which amounts to approx. 18000 US dollars.

Sorry if I stole the thread..didn't mean to.

Congrats on the new bike. I think you did real good. Last May I paid $10,400 for my bike. It has been a great bike so I have been very happy with the deal.

I didn't shop around to much when I bought my bike. I could have saved money by duing that. I paid $6,000 for mine last year. It is a 2000 883 and only had 4,300 miles. When everything is said and done I will have around $2,000 more in it and that doesn't include stuff that I traded or bartered for. I can't complain though because I only had to drive ten minutes away to get the bike vs. 1 hour to the local HD dealership. Heck, my brother got a 2002 883C for $5,800 from a guy in Columbus Ohio. They guy delivered it for no extra cost. That was nice of him to do that.

Shop around? What's that? Bought the sporty like anything else, wanted it...............go get it :laugh

Should have let the wife do it, she'll drive around all day just to save a dollar.

:laugh :laugh Yup, me too. I had my eye on the vivid black/lux blue two-tone custom in the catalog and I wandered into the showroom and it was on the floor so it was meant to be. Fortunately my dealer sells at MSRP so I didn't get the greatest deal on Earth, but I didn't get soaked either.

I'm looking to purchase an 05 1200 Custom 2-tone. MSRP is 9915 on the bike and I'm getting quotes from the dealers around here for about 12,300 out the door (including taxes which are about 8% here in AZ). Seems high to me given what other people have posted.

Would be interested in knowing what everyone is paying for an 05 Custom including taxes, prep etc. etc. Thanks!

Geez, after paying tax that almost $1600 bones! Are you sure they didn't throw in some chrome doo-dads and add it to the price? Either way, Don't do it, Man! There are lots of dealers who sell at MSRP+set up. Set up for a Sporty at my dealer was $175. Look around. If you're willing to travel a little for the right price you'll get it. The showrooms around me are packed with '05s right now.

Positive (they weren't including anything). Since that post, I've heard back from another local dealer that's saying 11.8 for a vivid black and will also include a $500 "gift" card. Still doesn't sound like much of a gift to me! Will keep looking.

One of the dealers out here mentioned that they won't discount anything until after Arizona Bike Week. They must get too many people in the excitement of Bike Week who will pay anything....

jsnell, I just bought a black 1200C for 9K here. Then I had them change the tins to torquoise/sand (cost $875 upgrade incl/labor). Problem is that my dealer here in Memphis doesn't know when they will get more 1200s in stock.
A black usually goes for $9815, 2 tone +$375, this custom color is $500 on top of that. But it is the color I want so I pay....lol
