I just went to put my new gloss black powdercoated rocker covers on and found the screw holes for the top covers to be cake in the stuff. I did not have a tap at home so I put the black on top of the chrome bottom rocker. I like it this way because now I do not have to sand out all that powdercoat from everywhere. The rocker arms would not fit and the top cover bolt holes were plugged so I improvised until I am bored again. Here is a look. I like it and that is all that mattered. My chrome front cover was cracked and therefore the change. http://xlforum.net/photopost/data/500/82medium_heads.jpg

Looks good!

I learned with my motor that if you don't tell them or mark the areas that you don't want coated, they will coat it. What are you going to do next when you're bored again?

Powdercoaters are a long way from rocket scientists..

I usually machine up blanks for everything I don't want covered..

Try and get the excess off asap before it fully hardens

50 bucks for both and I bought the covers off ebay for 35$ shipped. Kept looking till I got a set. I got a good deal. I was gonna do all the covers but I am going to get better informed before I tackle that job because I don't want the cam bushings and all the other important stuff to have powdercoat all over it.

Send it to Vanwin Coatings over here in VA. Tony Logan is the guy you want to talk to. They did all of the powdercoating on my bike and turned out great. I did have some paint in areas that I didn't want but that was my fault for not informing them. Turn around time for all of the engine components to be painted was a week.

oh! his number is 757-925-4450

My powdercoater is good about asking what needs to be masked off, when I had my triple trees done he coul dnot get in touch with me and actually watched American chopper to see how and where the part went so he could mask it out, onmy powdered one hole up on them!

Has anyone done Primary Covers, Cam Covers, Heads, jugs???

Do they do the insides of the Covers??

Jugs, do they need to be rehoned or can you just drop pistons in them and go??

Heads, do they need to be stripped down?? Or can you coat them with the valve in and then just bolt them back on??

All this provided that the pieces have been taped and covered from the powder properly!!! :D
