What size cam? They do have a bunch ya know. What about your stage I.
What pipes/mufflers ? What air cleaner ?

My advice would be to save the cam money and put it towards a basic 1200 conversion. It will give you roughly 50 % more HP and 65 % more TQ.
The cams are about $275. An Indy shop (in the winter time, when they are slow) can do a conv. for about $650/700.
No cam on the face of the earth can come anywhere near that performance increase for the money. That's called "BANG FOR THE BUCK".
You see, cams increase fuel delivery, so they entail an increase in air as well.
Stock 883 heads can't pass enough air to justify the price of a performance cam.
If you wait a little longer so to save a little more the conv.will will be more than worth it.
883 heads, due to the small valves, make very little HP, but they CAN be made to produce tons of TQ with a conversion.
For example, my '97 883 made 43 HP and 45 ftlbs of TQ stock. I had a Wiseco 9.5:1 Dished Piston Kit installed.
I got 60 rear wheel HP @ 5500 rpm, and 81 ftlbs TQ @ 3100 rpm's.
That's definitley the way to go.

Hey Maddog... he asked about Screamin Eagle "E" grind cams.

Although I agree that the money is a lot better spent on a 1200 conversion....

Now Jay ... when you say stage 1 , I gather you are refering to pipes and aircleaner NOT a stage 1 port/vave job????

yeah guys.they are the "E" cams.

i have s/e slip ons with hypercharger air kit.

i know a guy my uncle uses to work on his(my uncle) 94 road king. this guy used to race sporties back in the day.his name is gary.

gary told me that he would do the conv with 10.1c
, p&p my heads as much as is safely possible,(w/o a flow bench mind you.wich is why i'm allittle worried.),put the E cam in,put the s/e 31759-04 ignition system,oh and new valves too.and at the end of all that put a mikuni 44 carb on it.all for $1800.00.i've talked to alot of people who swear by him.

Hey Stevo.. Before I answered him I looked in my '04 Catalogue in the S/E section and couldn't find "E" cams. I'm not that familiar with S/E components because I like to go with the after market.
Over the years I've learned that Harley doesn't make a lot of their own performance stuff.
They use products from Honda, Mikuni, Dyna, Baker, Jims, Andrews, ETC. So I figure why pay a middle man (HD), just go to the source.

a 44 carb...he will put that on...I read that as saying ...because he has one left around he will try to sell it to me.....thats way too much carb....and he knows it, but he just needs to get rid of it.
I have a 44 but its on a high performance 1450 88 inch.

All I know is my dealer put a set of the SE .551's in a 1200 with stage 1 and couldn't justify the new powercurve - I guess it lost a ton down low. Don't know what they would do with 883 heads though.
