I'm thinking of selling my sportster and getting a Buell. The Harley guys have improved the fuel delivery issues with the newer FI bikes using SERTs, Powercommander, etc. to richen the air/fuel mix and modify for other modifications to intake, exhaust and big bore kits.

What are you Buell guys finding most successful? Are they the same FI systems?

I've been considering a 2007 XB12ss that is very lightly used and a good price. When I asked a knowledgeable Buell guy he suggested thay were more difficult and to look for a carburated S1. Any thoughts.

Thanks.

if you want to do tuning, get up to a 2007. theyre the easiest to interface on your own via a laptop/palm and a simple $50 cable.

the only thing that makes it 'difficult' is the lack of knowledge of tuning fuel injection. i built my exhaust and did the tuning on the ECM and it is a whole new bike compared to the day i picked it up from the dealer. but note: i wouldnt trust any HD tech to do any tuning on my buell.

Hey , just " visiting " from the cafe section, I too am wondering how would you tune the F/I on the newer buells such as the 1125 and the xb12 there doesent seem to be too many options available for fuel injection controllers, or exhaust either. Id like to make room in the garage for a Buell .

Considering an 85 hp XB12 is about as quick as a 100 hp Sportster, you may find it fine to leave it stock.

ECMspy will do wonders on the pre-'08 XBs and '99-'02 tubers, as long as you learn how to use it. Check Badweatherbikers.com for others on there with the same mods, who have changed their maps with ECMspy, and they may be willing to send you the data to make it easy on ya. On the '08-up, Buell changed to a crank positioning sensor from the old cam pos sensor and got a new FI setup to boot.
