That's a sweet looking rode, but I don't know anything about it...not much is stock anymore, wheels, brakes, shocks, bodywork. Overall good-looking. Hope you find what you need here.

Using the forum to advertise your ebay auctions is sternly frowned upon by sys.admin.

The bike was given away by HotXL ...if I remember correctly.....anyway it was put together in the pages of Hot XL to be given away....

and yes it would have been about 97...

I have the Hot XL magazine with an article on it somewhere....

It was more looks than go from memory..

Why do you wish to know more info....are you trying to sell it????

It was a sporty only mag that was put out by American Iron.... went belly up quite a few years ago

Chris Maeida and Stephanie Fields (pardon spelling) were the main writers and they've gone back to American Iron

crap.. I thought that I posted on this earlier. Oh well..

The engine is a pre 1991 motor. It should have the 4 speed tranny. The way you can tell is by the cam and primary covers. You can also check by looking up the vin number.

1986 - 1990 had one design of primary and the cam cover had the breather hole.
1991 - 1993 has the first design of the primary cover made for the 5 speed engines. The cam cover is also different since the breather hole was relocated to the cylinder heads and into the carb.
1994 - 2003 use a newer design primary and the same(or very similar) cam cover the is on the 1991 - 1993 bikes.
2004+ is just a completely different cover on both sides

Just had a look at the mag it's in...

it was given away at Daytona 98

Motor was an '86 4 speed 883 with a 1200 kit NOTHING ELSE...
carb was an S&S E

They left the motor alone so whoever won it could bomb it up as much as they wanted....so who knows what's been done..

would you be willing to part with that magazine. All i have is the cover and only a copy of that.

Thank you so much for the info.

I have no idea what is done to the motor...but it seems really quick...

a 883/1200 conversion with stock heads is quite a good street motor and is often a better motor than a stock 1200....

Funny tho... I've lost the cover to this mag.... and you've just got the cover...:D

I can scan the pages but the mag isn't for sale, it's part of my reference library and as we've just found out...it can come in handy.....

Sides that was the first time I saw the '98 1200S in print with the motor specs...as I was just thinking of buying an 883 and putting a cafe racer style body kit on it and bombing the motor before I got that mag......so NO it's not for sale..

he still needs to correct his ebay ad though. It still says that the motor is a 1996 instead of 1986. BIG difference IMHO.
