They are makin my head spin.
Just a little advice please. production 'P" frame class states "unmodified exhaust system"
My question is . What frame class does a stock sportster framed bike enter?
P is my hope. But my exhaust is not stock.
Secondlyyyy. the engine class for a heavily modded engine will not be P-P (production pushrod) it looks like it will be PG pushrod on gas, and/or PF pushrod fuel if you run nitrous . Am I close?

Production frame requires Production engine. So the only Production frame class is P-PP (Production frame, production pushrod engine).

To qualify as a production frame and engine, it's gotta look completely stock. Internal mods are allowed so long as they're out of sight. Factory cases, cylinders, and heads are required as well. Guys take the baffles out of their stock pipes and get away with it, but it's gotta look stock. Likewise people gut their air cleaners but again, the air cleaner has to appear stock from the outside. Original carburetor is required as well.

Up until this last year, your bike would have run M-PG on the event gasoline or M-PF on nitrous. That's frame class "Modified", which means a regular production frame with modifications (as opposed to a racing or home made frame). But starting with the2006 season, they also require the engine to come from the same manufacturer as the frame, to run Modified. So bikes with S&S cases, including both of mine, got bumped to Altered instead. Altered is a higher class that allows custom frames, lay-down bikes, dual motors, etc.

The caveat here is that the AMA did not change their rules; only SCTA/BNI changed. So bikes with aftermarket cases are still legal in M at the Bub meet, which is run under AMA rules. The other 3 events are run under SCTA/BNI rules.

It's one of the stupidest rule changes I've ever seen. Virtually all the big motor records were set with aftermarket cases, and many M records are now going to be awfully tough to beat. Incluidng some of mine. But I'd rather have stayed in M. We were working very hard on the MPS-PG 1650 record, 192.199, and very close, with a best one-way speed of 192.3, when they made the change. Sure put a monkey wrench into my plans.

We already have the 1350cc M-PG and M-PF records, although the fuel record is vulnerable since we did it on gas. I'm going to build an M-legalmotor for the black bike since it'll never be a good A bike, too short and tall. The orange bike I don't have much choice, I've got to leave it in A, but it's at least competitive there.

Yes ... http://www.speedtrialsbybub.com

The USFRA runs World of Speed, which runs under SCTA/BNI rules. Their site is http://www.saltflats.com

SCTA/BNI runs Speedweek and World Finals: http://www.scta-bni.org

Be great to have you out there!

Narley,

If'n your on the Right Coast check out the ECTA, they generally follow SCTA rules but not always. The track is an old 2 mile concrete WWII glider training base. Busa's have gone over 250mph there.

Narley,
Anything that is not stock visually will put you in Modified.
Any kind of fairing will put you in Partial Streamlined.
An unsealed gas tank will put you in Fuel.

Looking at your pic: Modified/Pushrod Gas(?) M/PG
Juice makes it Fuel; M/PF

Thanks Sam, thats my best figurin also.....nwo the gearing needs to be a little taller than the drag setup.....
At least now the million dollar motor will be dedicated to racing...no more compromise for keeping it streetable. Bought the new honda davidson V-rod special. Oddly I was wanting the little fairing and a black out for the sporty then I saw this v-rod which had both.

Plus I love the looks of a 240 tire.

And what a new sensation to be able to just start the bike and ride then go to a gas station fill it up with pump gas and repeat.

I've been following (without understanding) that rule change. Who were they targeting with that? It makes as little sense as the 100% leather rule.

I just hope I can get my "A" chassis built and run before they change the rules again.
