This looks like a clean bike, but a bit far away from WI (I'd post the pix, but I have to get to 15 posts): http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140291213352&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT&viewitem=
Would anyone suggest simply purchasing just an engine with wiring, or can I use a lot of the stock parts to put on the chopper? Here is just an engine: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BUELL-X1-LIGHTNING-1203-MOTOR-ENGINE-SPORTSTER-8172-MI_W0QQitemZ280297989507QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotorcy cles_Parts_Accessories?hash=item280297989507&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245&_trkparms=72%3A543%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318
I want an all black engine, but it looks a bit oxidized. Can this be un-oxidized. Where would I do that?
I plan on using a red barron frame (still undecided on the style). I do know that I want a wide back tire (250-280). If I decide on a larger tire, is there anything I have to worry about with placing the engine. Seems like the wider the tire the more I have to displace the engine and the balance of the bike will be off. Am I thinking of this correctly?
Thanks for the help!

S-100 products do a great job, available at most dealers. First use the cleaner then the engine brightener. The black will look new.
I've read you only need 5 posts for photos. If you put some pics in your gallery someone will post them.

It has the 984 engine, and a bit pricey, as I think I can find a XB12 for the same price. How much diff in push does the 12 have over the 9S?

There's an ocean between a XB9 and a XB12.......like between an old 1340 and a new CVO model....
Better buy an older 1200 buell engine...

I am not looking for speed, just noise. So long as there is a good amount of thump in either I will be happy. I am NOT going to ride this to go 100 mph. And I won't really care if I can go 0-60 in 4 seconds. I will be sure to test drive each again to start to see the differences. Problem is, it is f'n cold here in WI!

My personal opinion - it's iceburgville here in MI too but have to agree w/BUEZ... buy an older Buell (2002 and back) as your donor. Has nothing to do with power/performance, but EVERYTHING to do with budget! The older Buells will have a greater frame selection to choose from + it should be quite a bit cheaper.
Then again- if your not looking for speed- just noise... I'd steer your toward an 883 (or better yet- 1200cc) Sporty. A few things should be stated here- there's usually a TON of 'em around as they're typically known as a
"starter bikes" for women (give the size/ride height of the bike). Seeing there's so many, pricepoint is typically quite a bit less then a Buell. And with the Sporty you'll have some better options for donor parts (tank, forks, spoked wheels, fenders, etc...) should you decide to use them. Taking the Buell route, you really won't have many donor parts besides a motor and battery (and potentially forks, wheels- if you not partial to running mag's over spokes, and brakes).
Again- if it's just noise (not power) take the Sporty route. Even if/when you get the itch for more... you can always upgrade cams, heads, and/or jugs for a little more kick in the seat of your pants- Buell and Sporty alike! Bear in mind - the Buell trademark IS/has been viewed as a production driven (performance) upgrade to a Harley base. So saying you want sound and dont care about performance, but want to use a Buell as donor, is a bit confusing. Hell- if you want a Buell as the donor (regardless of price, sound, or performance)- GO FOR IT... I did, and don't regret one bit of it.
