TNsportster 21st March 2005, 02:12 that's AWESOME!
Make one to take the rubbermount engine and I'd sell a kidney to buy it!!
garman68hd 29th March 2005, 20:56 Seriously, that's one the meanest looking bikes I've ever seen.
U british Dug?
I'm really new to all this, but if I ever wanted to build a bike, it would have to be something like that. Springer forks. They're classic, they're good looking, they are genuinly patented by some old Davidson himself. What more can you ask? Good job.
I have a question relating to this:
What is the best way to start to build my own custom? By a frame and start there, or buy an old bike and rip it apart? I understand it depends of course, but is there a rule of thumb? And does anyone have some good links for this purpose only (bobber sportster)?
Tx :)
Dug 30th March 2005, 18:24 Garman68hd - I think the easiest way into a Bobber is the RoadHopper Kit by Zero.
So the solution would be - buy a donor bike and use the Zero kit.
This is designed for a donor 1991 to 2003 5 speed XL.
Here are the options -
ZERO ROADHOPPER ROLLING CHASSIS for 1991 – 2003 XL Engine
TYPE 1 = HYDRAULIC FORKS
TYPE 2 = SPRINGER FORKS
RoadHopper
Stage 1 Rolling Chassis
with Frame, Front / Rear Wheel with tyres,
front end, oil tank, handlebar, side stand
front motor mount plates............................Type 1 $3,499
Type 2 $3,999
RoadHopper
Stage 2 Rolling Chassis
As Stage 1 and also includes all components and parts except
engine, speedo, gas tank
and fenders ............................Type 1 $6,499
Type 2 $6,999
RoadHopper
Stage 3 Rolling Chassis
As Stage 2 includes all components and parts and
gas tank and fenders ( raw finish )
except Engine and speedo .........................Type 1 $7,399
Type 2 $7,999

garman68hd 30th March 2005, 18:28 Cheers mate.
gordy 8th April 2005, 12:02 All depends on what you want to spend those kits Dug has are great but Europeans may have a problem as they are not (as far as I'm aware) TUV approved.
There are European frame builders that could produce a similar Tuv approved frame for around 1700 Euros, but there are plenty of sportster bobbers created from a stock sportster that look great and havent cost that much to produce.
Gordy
Could you share with us what european frame builders produce a goosnecked frame /rolling chassis and blue printed for 5 speed XL engines complete with oil tank.
Is that a particular frame you advertise on your own commercial web site ?
1700 euros seems a bit pricey for a " similar " hardtail frame. VG supply a tuv frame which retails less than 1500 euro. We decided that that would not have worked for us as it would have looked crap.
In custom building, something thats looks " similar " and cheap moreoften ruins the job.
You say Europeans may have a problem. Apart from germany, austria, denmark and finland, what other of the 25 EU countries and non EU member europeans will have a problem ?

Hi Dug
I would have thought most frame builders could build a gooseneck frame for a 5 speed XL given the dimensions required that would not look crap! but you dont have to have a gooseneck frame to have a bobber and I didnt say it would include an oil tank nor did I say it would be a rolling chassis.
No we dont sell them on our site, I said around 1700 it was a ball park figure
You'll notice I said the kit you offer is a great kit but I was offering some other options not everyone has a lot of cash to play with.. And I said Europeans may have a problem with TUV not that all would.
voneville 23rd April 2005, 01:57 I can't see the frame that well with the black backdrop, but cool looking bike anyway. It's cool that more people are starting to support the custom sporty builders out there. But maybe that's some of the appeal too, no two custom sporty's look alike.
slolane 26th April 2005, 13:42 Thats awesome. I'm thinking of a bobber myself with the parts I have left over from my mods. I love the old school look!
