Any thoughts on the Pingel petcock? I just re-sealed my tank due to a bit of rust and had to remove the stock PC to do it. So, since it's off (and a bit old and rusty itself) should I spend the $100 for a new Pingel?

Talk to Turbota. I think he recently bought one of those.

Just take the stock petcock slighty apart and defeat the vacuum feature by moving the sping to the other side of the diaphram (will keep keep it from seating and shutting of fuel). Now you have a manual petcock. Plug up vacuum line on manifold.

Then send $100 to me

Toe-

I was more worried about the bits of rust and the screen that keeps falling off.

xena is right ... I installed a Pingel petcock on my bike about a week ago. Paid $80 for it to the door from Jireh. The one I have has the fuel outlet tube pointing straight down. I believe the one that points 90 degrees is about 10 bucks cheaper.

My stock petcock kept shutting down the engine. (a real POS)!

I did not use the vacuum style petcock. They cost alot more and don't flow as well.

Any idea how much more that is than a stock one? I had no problems, just thought it wise as a preventitive measure since it was all apart.

No idea what a stock fuel valve costs. I wouldn't install one on my bike even if they gave it to me free-gratis

Same thing happend to me last November......put on a Pengel, blocked the vacuum and just have to remember to turn the fuel off now.

Ride Safe.

I don't even turn my fuel off when I'm done riding ... But, if the float needle and seat ever stick open, I guess I will wished I had!

oh well

I'm still not well trained in turning it off yet. Still walk out to the garage and look and see it turned on......like you I've been lucky not to have a pool of gas in the garage.

Added to that the bagger is FI and doesn't have a fuel valve.....so it sort of goes out of my mind. But I've been there before. :laugh

Turbota, I remember reading about your petcock problem. Did the Pingel cure it, or more specifically did you put enough miles on it to convince you that the problem is solved?

Also, did you dissect the old one and take a peek inside? If so, what did you find?

Inquiring minds want to know.... ;) :D

Bart ... I have no more problems with the new fuel valve. In fact, I rode the bike about 70 miles today (it was a beutiful 84 degrees)

I took the old fuel valve apart, but I really couldn't find anything wrong with it, but I know it was stopping the fuel flow.

There is a recall of some sort on the 2004 Sportys for the fuel valve. The dealer told me that they would replace it for free .... But, I don't want another one of those stock valves on the bike anymore.

.........There is NO reason to pay retail. I got a Pingel a few months ago on eBay..NEW in sealed box for $50 I think...shop around.

Turbota, still happy with your decision?

The stock vacuum unit actually hasn't given us any trouble, HOWEVER, I freakin' hate the fact that there is no "prime" setting since that ride tends to get out only once a week or so.

Should this be our next upgrade?

We have a new product line called the click-slick petcock. Similar in design to the pingle but has a full 90 degree travel between each transition so it's easier to know what postion it is in. Pingles have a small travel and are sometimes difficult t know where reserve is when riding. Best part about these new petcocks is they only cost $85 brand new!!

Just taking the time certainly earns my business (as far as I'm concerned).

I'll probably contact you guys after the holidays.
