I just got this in an email and thought some of you might enjoy it:
Why I Carry a Gun
This about says it all!!!!!!!!!
My old grandpa once said to me, "Son, there comes a time in every man's
life when he stops bustin' knuckles and starts bustin' caps and usually
it's when he becomes too old to take an ass whoopin'.
I don't carry a gun to kill people. I carry a gun to keep from being killed.
I don't carry a gun to scare people. I carry a gun because sometimes this world can be a scary place.
I don't carry a gun because I'm paranoid. I carry a gun because there are real threats in the world.
I don't carry a gun because I'm evil. I carry a gun because I have lived long enough to see the evil in the world.
I don't carry a gun because I hate the government. I carry a gun because I understand the limitations of government.
I don't carry a gun because I'm angry. I carry a gun so that I don't have to spend the rest of my life hating myself for failing to be prepared.
I don't carry a gun because I want to shoot someone. I carry a gun because I want to die at a ripe old age in my bed, and not on a sidewalk somewhere tomorrow afternoon.
I don't carry a gun because I'm a cowboy. I carry a gun because, when I die and go to Heaven, I want to be a cowboy.
I don't carry a gun to make me feel like a man. I carry a gun because men know how to take care of themselves and the ones they love.
I don't carry a gun because I feel inadequate. I carry a gun because, unarmed and facing three armed thugs, I am inadequate.
I don't carry a gun because I love it. I carry a gun because I love life and the people who make it meaningful to me.
"Police Protection" is an oxymoron. Free citizens must protect themselves. Police do not protect you from crime; they usually just investigate the crime after it happens and then call someone in to clean up the mess.
Personally, I carry a gun because I'm too young to die and too old to take an ass whoopin'."
author unknown (but obviously brilliant)
Remember the average response time to a 911 call is over 4 minutes.
The average response time of a 357 magnum is 1400 FPS.

Sound wisdom. Unfortunately, not every gun owner (knife owner or baseball bat owner etc) shares the same perspective.

Been there done that sort of. Went to work one day and had a meeting with my supervisor....started walking into the building thinking that I had an extra spring in my step, turns out my Glock was home on the bed. Fastest round trip ever, good thing I was early the first time :D

MY typical response to the grazing sheeple is:
"I carry a gun because I would much rather have it and not need it;
Than NOT have it and need it."
For those who say they only carry when they think they will need a firearm, I respond with:
"Ok, well, if I think I need a firearm to go somewhere, I try not to go there."
What's kind of funny, is that once I was in an elevator and I was carrying concealed.... A woman bumped into me and hit my gun with her arm, she looked at me with a shocked look on her face. She asked, "What is that?"
"A medical device," I said (hoping that she would not inquire further.)
Then she asked,"Oh, what for?"
At this point, I was thinking what a nosey B$%ch, but I told her, "It's for Hemorrhaging."
She dropped the subject.

A t-shirt at the gun show
I carry a gun because a cop is too heavy
My Dad almost shot a guy when he was a kid,PLAYING with his 22.Yeah so I never got to have one:frownthre
So he was always about guns and hunting, nothing else.Never saw a big threat in most people.
He asked me,one day,why I carried a gun all the time.I said I didn't except when out on the logging roads.
I explained that people were a little different now. They may not kill you,or just give you a beating. They want to do stupid sh!t to people now.
A beating,not good.Getting killed worse.But the other stuff is what I really don't want.

A girl I know once saw my firearm and asked me, "What's that for?"
I honestly replied "It's for shooting..."
That about sums it up for me. My hammer's for hammering, my car is for driving, my firearms are for shooting. If I need to shoot something, I need the tool that does that.
Beyond that, it's just semantics and gibberish.

I’m not a anti-gun guy, I lived with guns all my life, my father used to write articles for Guns & Ammo in the ’80, the only time those guns left home was to go at a shooting range, in a case, in the trunk…
I wonder how many gun owners really know how to use it properly in case of emergency !
Shooting rounds at soda cans in the backyard is one thing; shooting a guy in the face is another, and when you “need” a gun it’s rarely to shoot at a 100yd !

I agree with a carry gun however there are alternatives for those who would rather not carry a gun but still have some plan of self-defense available. I myself have some of the following and feel very well protected and capable of a first rate self-defense plan /action....for times when a gun is not advisable. I always have some form of protection.

A couple of weeks ago my father in law asked my wife why I carried a gun. She simply told him that I could, it was my Right, and that I believed that it was/is my duty and responsibility to protect my family, friends, coworkers and everybody else and that includes those how do not carry or even like guns.
He just said "oh O.K."

I've been bumped into a few times also, I tell people its a colostomy bag. They shut up and my friends and me just chuckle.
My brother in law is a karate instructor, while standing next to me he told me he could take my gun off me before I could shoot him. I agreed and politely asked him to stand on the other side of the room and try. He had no reply.

Well I've got one, how can a guy standing on the other side of the room be a menace to you ? except if he's pointing a gun at you, but not much you can do about that, even with a gun in your trousers don't you !
You all make me laugh thinking you’re the man, the hero who’s gonna protect everybody because you’ve got a gun !
Answer to that !

Wow. I guess you've got all crime nailed down to a single sinario. Your smooth. I guess a home intruder probably wouldn't be at the other side of the room. Oh and if someone where attacking a friend or relative you most certainly would be at arms reach then too.
If you've got a problem with guns, don't post to the gun forum, theres probably a tree near you somewhere that needs a hug.

So what if i stand still?
Seriously though, don't you watch the news?
I saw where a guy got his skull broke open by a guy with a bat right in front of the police station.
I watched first hand, from 3 cars back, as 4 guys pulled another 4 guys out of a car, beat them bloody at a stoplight and took their car. When they left and the light turned green, I saw a police car 300ft away watching and calling it in on the radio. He didn't even get out of the car. Just stayed at a "safe distance" like a coward.
Thats just 2 examples. I could go on all day. I live in a nice suburban neighborhood. But you can't argue that life sometimes takes you out of your safe zone and for whatever reason you have to go somewhere you would rather not be.
You can call us "tuff guys" or say its a ego thing all you want. I got a wife and two small children and I'll be dammed if I'm gonna stand by like a coward if they ever need me.
And with the economy the way its going you can bet people are gonna get alot more desperate and things are going to get worse.

A person that is legally licensed to carry a concealed weapon has paid their hard earned money to take the require class, paid their money for the application, the permit, and their choice of weapon(s). These reasons and the fact that the Second Ammendment says one can requires absolutely NO explanation to anyone why one chooses to carry. It is a RIGHT that we as Americans have because others before us have fought for and this right still continues to be protected.

Not triing to be an a@@ but I think your attitude was a little harsh. I've talked to so many people that argue why people shouldn't carry guns that it makes me think that people who DO carry are possibly the only ones that see violence and crime are not predictable and should not be catagorized into easily avoidable senarios. The fact is it happens at anytime, anywhere, and usually with little to no reason, and a complete disregaurd for how you "feel" about it. I think we should all be prepared or don't bit@h about it when it happens.

Ask yourself this: Why do police carry guns?
Why would my reason be any different? Not a damn thing to do with "tough guy" bullshit. It's not romance, "gun crazy", "violence culture" or any other Oprah Winfrey crap.
It's simply the tool you need when deadly force is required.
If you can go through life never needing deadly force, consider yourself lucky. For me, as soon as the police don't need them, I'll put mine down too.
Until that utopian ideal magicaly happens, I'll keep my hammer for hammering, my car for driving, and my firearms for shooting - when and if that needs to be done.

A gun is a tool for defence. Same as a lock or an alarm. Like 911 with no wait. It just irritates me that because we do everything we can to protect the ones that we love, some politically correct, logically challenged, ack like we all want to be John Wayne.

I don't carry yet but I want to.
If you aren't able to protect yourself
these days then you are wide open
to becoming a victim.
Absolutely nothing wrong with becoming
licensed to carry. It's a right as an American citizen.

I would love to be able to carry legally, but my state has a POS governor that vetoed CCW laws in our state twice and bought off enough of his democratic (sic) cronies to beat the veto-proof supermajority votes.
