Hi all,
A few years ago I started a Buell chopper project. Had to put it on hold for a while, but over the holidays I resumed working on it.
The Donor bike was a factory stock 98 S1 White Lightning with a Thunderstorm motor. I gutted it an used the parts I wanted. The frame was build by Allen Bros Chopper Works in CO. They hand build it using parts I sent them and some other Buell parts they had. It is a one-of-a-kind frame. They had a protoype they called the Rolled Morph and I convinced them to make this on according to my design.
To be honest I asked for some features that I later regretted and had to change but here are the basic specs.
Frame specs:
Tubular radius backbone design with a unique tripple backbone.
Single downtube curved.
-2 in. rise, 3 in. stretch from original Buell.
38 degrees neck rake (zero in the trees).
Oil in the frame.
Rubber mounted engine using Buell design.
Buell monoshock rear suspension.
The plan was to use a bunch of original buell parts:
Thunderstorm Engine.
OEM Marsechini 17 in. wheels with Nissen brakes.
OEM Nissen front-end with inverted front forks.
OEM Instruments and wire harness.
OEM voltage regulator and ignition box
OEM swing arm
OEM rear shock
OEM engine mounts and adjusters
OEM rear fender (carbon fiber)
OEM exhaust system with V&H muffler.
I had to buy a bunch of parts too many to list but here are some highlights:
S1 Carbon fiber front fender, lower belt guard and wind screen (not on yet)
American Sport Bike parts (all carbon fiber)
Aftermarket mirrors with built-in turn signals (not installed yet)
Aftermarket handlebar, kick stand, horn, tag holder and headlight (all custom mounted)
HD rear turn signals
HD mid mount controls (custom fit)
New tires (190 on back 110 on front)
Engine specs:
The Engine is bored .005 oversize with Buell pistons.
The heads are shaved a bit and there are new valves, and Hi tension springs.
The cams are Edelbrock .590 lift.
Adjustable push rods.
And for a carb I bought a very cool dual carb setup (show only), will use S&S for street.
My Harley tech extraordinaire buddy Randy is doing the custom fab work, fitting and engine mods, etc...
The final step of the mockup is the tank which is being made right now. We shipped the bike to a tank man to make a custom tank that will be a one-off for this bike.
Then we'll tear it down and send the parts to be powder coated, and painted where needed. The final assembly will be done next fall or winter most likely.
I'll post pics as soon as I figure out how...
