View Full Version : '04 Handle Bar Question

I want to replace my stock handlebars on my '04 883XL. I want the forward seating position, as I will be getting rearsets in the future and already ride with my feet on the passenger pegs. The key to the new bars is cost-effectiveness, so that means no clip-ons for now and using something that will keep all my stock wires and lines.

With this in mind, I was considering the H-D Sport bars which move you forward .5" and down 1.5" over stock. They are supposed to be a direct replacement, but I don't think that will be aggressive or even noticible enough.

So, I found the Storz Superbike bars and they move you down 1.5 and forward 1.25, which seems a little more aggressive and more in line with what I want.

I also was looking at the drag bars, which move you down 3.5-inches and forward 2.25.

So.... my questions are, what are the thoughts on drag bars vs. Sport bars vs. Superbike bars, has anyone used any of them as a direct stock replacement before, and if so, how was the position and were you able to swap them using all your stock cables and wires? Thanks again guys,

Check out http//www.wild1inc.com they have a huge selection
of bars online. My sportster runs a T-BAR with 11.5 pullback
a 8 inch rise and the bars are 30.5 inches wide. If you look
at the W0501's they will fit on any sportster out there.
The bars are also 1 1/4" inch thick.
Just have to relocate speedo, or dump it for a Dakota Digital speedo
that will mount under the new bars. :tour
Also the cables and brake lines will have to be extended so the new
bars will swing freely :luvsport

I put Khrome Werks drag bars on my '04 1200C. Pull back is 3.8 inch. They are 27'' wide and dimpled. No modifications required.

I just looked at your pic's of your Bike. You should be able to go with 5 3/4" risers and Drag Bars and be able to just put everything back on as you have it..

I swapped out my Stock bars for Drags and didn't have to change anything!!!
I'll get some pics posted pretty soon..

Why not an m-bend bar? That will put almost to where clip-ons would be.

Also, I'm thinking of going to the 883 bars (I believe that's you have, you're bike was an 883 from the factory???). If you want to sell for cheap PM me and let me know. I live on the east coast, so shipping may be an issue. These are availible from my dealer for a very reasonable price, so you'd have to underball them. Thanks.

I ordered the Sport bars after deliberating over 6 or 7 set ups. Yeah, my bike was an 883, I don't think shipping would be very much. What does the dealer sell them for?
