Nu Viking 11th March 2005, 06:10 3/4 of a quart or in Canada, 3/4 of .946of a litre. metric is fine. metric conversion sucks. If you look below the footpeg mount you well see a small phillips screw [why phillips is beyond me, been meening to convert this screw to an allen screw] stand the bike 90 degrees upright after you have removed this screw and the insection cover that looks like a chevy symbleabove the shifter and pour oil into the primary till it leeks out of the little screw hole that should be an allen screw. you well find this is 3/4 of a quart unless you forgot to put the magnetic drain back in the bottem. Annother handy tip for pouring oil is take a small funnel and put a hose on it to get into the primary. use sportlube or gear and chaincase oil. DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT overfill the primary case. the extra oil creates a thicker film on the clutch plates and well eventually weaken the clutch diaphram. then burnouts and holeshots and opening her wide on the highway well not be an option. trust me on this one.... Oh just one more thing to help the enviroment save the oil for the car it sould work and after all its just a car. Jason's Sporty 12th March 2005, 03:38 Hello. I have an 86 and the manual calls for 1.5 pints. Plus that small plug right above the primary chain adjuster is the fluid level plug. Just fill the primary with the bike straight up and down until oil runs out of the hole then put the plug back in and there ya go. Just be sure to check the level after a short ride as the clutch plates and tranny etc. will take up some of the fluid. Also only use the sporttrans fluid. Anything will could lunch the tranny, clutches or both. 04newhog 12th March 2005, 04:10 ok everyone, thanks for the info. |
