Check out this little home made XR-1000 racer from New Zealand, notice the frame or lack thereof and the neat primary cover. those Kiwis are always up to something, John Britten and Burt Monroe and who ever this fella is, must be the water ( innovation )....................Steve

Didn't really know the Sporty engine could be used as a stressed member....

Here's another one, I don't think it's the same bike, now either this guy is 6' 6" which is unlikely for a racer or these things are tiny, I'd guess less than 360 lbs, the old XRTT's were around 340 or so.................Steve

Mike was called the black adder owned by Lyndsay Williamson who owned Christchurch Motorcycles

Frame is by Ken Macintosh

Bike was built back in the 80's and it was competitive in BEARS racing (british european and american racing - no jappas)

Very Very cool, I wonder if Macintosh still creates frames? Those engines probably didn't make much more than 100HP but the whole package is extremely well thought out. Do you know how much these bikes weighed? I'm seeing Christchurch motorcycles decals on the lower fairing of both bikes........................Steve

That pic was taken at Burt Monroe Challenge last year (2008)

Lyndsay is not a big fella, prob 5'6 at most..At least, last time I seen him :)

Then the bike really has to be tiny. Anybody know how much these things weigh? Very Very cool...............................Steve

I would love that super narrow primary, anybody know anything about it? Loudon has way more left hand turns than rights, so the primary tends to get in the way! Hey Steve, that rolling chassis and primary, your motor, and the Daytona bodywork and you would have what you need to deal with that Vincent!

Maru, I just happen to be @ the computer this morning. I have a email address for the fella who built the frame ( Ken McIntosh ), maybe he knows about the billet primary. I emailed this address about a week ago but no response yet. Who knows sometimes these people are very busy. Can't remember who gave me the address, it might have been you? Any way I was thinking about that frame too......................

I did not supply the email, but I did follow the links someone supplied. Those folks are big into Manx Nortons so it would not surprise me if the bike handles much like a Manx which is to say very good, even by todays standards. Notice that these folks are from Christchurch, the same town as Britton.

Ken McIntosh emailed me this morning, sad news they are no longer making the XR-1000 frames: he says he is just too busy with the Manx business. I didn't ask him about the billet primary cover, but at least we know he answers emails from the States.......................Steve
