View Full Version : Looking for Blast engine picture
bs2100 31st October 2006, 15:18 I've been looking around a bunch of sites and I just can't find a picture of the blast engine. I'd think it'd look like a normal sportster/buell engine just without the rear cylinder, but looking at the whole bike I'm not sure if that's the case.
Any help is appreciated :D
chrishajer 31st October 2006, 15:38 It's more than that. The castings are all different, and the cam area is certainly all different. Take a look at www.buell.com under Bikes > Blast > Engine or any of the other sections (where you can see the engine in the photo.)

If you're looking for something more detailed, maybe I have one in a Service manual.

bs2100 31st October 2006, 15:52 Thanks guys, that Sport Twin site is exactly what I was looking for.
I'm basically thinking about a blast that's for sale locally for my sister in law to learn on and after she's done learning it'll be time to make some fun changes :banana
hybriDatsun350 1st November 2006, 17:04 The blast engine is just a Buell V-twin minus one cylinder. Thats all it is. All they did was cast in a slab of aluminum where the second hole used to be.

That's just not true. The castings are different all over the place, like in the cam area and the whole right side.

While it's based on a Buell Twin, it's not like you can just make a Blast into a Twin easily. Without knowing what the "fun changes" are, there's no way of guessing if they will work or not on a Blast.

avnsteve 2nd November 2006, 15:08 Chris, I FULLY understand your point, but even the pictures you posted for comparison make the engines look like they came from the same casting, the oil pump drive, the pinion gear, even the cam gears are in the same location as it would be on a vtwin, same sending unit on the right in the pic, same bolt hole patterns.
hybriDatsun350 2nd November 2006, 20:37 I'm not saying you can just make a Blast engine into a V-twin, but it is cast from the same design. All they did was delete any metal deemed unecessary for a single cylinder version of the engine. It's the same engine minus a few ounces of extra metal.

That a pretty nice picture :D

Jason's Sporty 22nd November 2006, 17:03 Buell also changed the timing gear from the rear intake on my 86 sporty to the front intake on the newer Buells. I would just find a whole Buell 900 or 1200 Motor for way less than trying to make a Blast motor into a twin. take a look between the blast and XB cases, they removed any material involving the lifter bores too, kinda hard to replace that. You could have a Blast make more power than a XB though that would be awesome!!!
