View Full Version : Rear turn signal relocating below tail light?

Anyone here move their siganls to one of those bars below the tailight? If so any pics and what light bar mount you used would be appreciated.

I'm thinking of moving mine so that I can get some larger saddlebags in the future but don't really like the looks of the tag mount kits. I'm sure since some of those below the tail light bars that are made for softails and such would require some drilling of the fender.

Just curious if anyone else has moved their lights this way.

this is the best looking relocation kit i have seen,
not my sporty, it is an 05 low.
I want to know if it will work on mine and what the part number is.

Hey Loui,

That's what I'm talking about. Very clean and tight while being completely out of the way. That looks like a HD part that fits another bike. I know that JP Cycles, Custom Chrome and Kuryakyn make such a light mount bar for softails and dressers but was hoping someone (such as pictured) that has done this could tell me what part they used for the best fit. I don't mind making some modifications but want somehthing that tucks up under the light well and fits the fender on the sporty.

Thanks for posting the link to that pic, hoefully someone will chime in otherwise I may just order one of the reall short light mount bars and try it.

I did the same thing on my 04. It even looks better on a black fender IMO. They are off of the Deluxe. Your dealer should be able to tell you the numbers. They weren't very expensive either if I remember right. you will have to drill 2 holes for bolts and 2 holes to put the wires through. You will want to get something to cover the holes left in your fender struts though. I picked up a couple of vest pins at the Harley dealer and they fit perfect. They are the orbits design pins.

I fitted one of those bars on my '05. The one I fitted is #68617-04, but that's the international version, the domestic (US) version is #68615-04 (http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/gma_product.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=84552444876450 8&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302289143&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=2534374302289143&bmUID=1162595294773&bmLocale=en_US):

It fits the Sporty fender perfectly, and it comes with the plugs to plug straight into the sockets in the rear light. You do have to drill holes, and it's a bit tricky making sure you drill them in exactly the right place; you don't want to end up with your light bar off centre or on a slant!

You can have much smaller holes for the wires if you take the plugs off, feed the wires through, then click the plugs back on again.

You could look at this thread (scroll down to post 4 and later). There are some pics in Hoowasat's gallery.

Sorry to bring this thread back from the beyond, but I have a question that directly relates to this modification.

I am seriously considering doing this because I may be able to get this part for a good price. To anyone who has done this, have you left the fender in place and just drilled the holes while it was attached to the bike? Or have you removed the fender and then made the modification?

Thanks in advance.

Put one on my friends 04/XL 1200 and we left the fender on. We did put a piece of 2 x 4 between the fender and the tire. Drilling through the tire would have been a bit embarrassing.

I left the fender in place, but I jacked the bike up and dropped the wheel right down (undid the shocks from the swingarm). Wanted to make sure I didn't drill into the tyre!

The trickiest bit was making sure I drilled the holes in exactly the right place; I guess that would be easier with the fender off the bike, but I didn't want to go to that much trouble. I put some white electrical tape on the fender so I could draw on it with Biro where the light bar was going to go, and then from that where to drill the holes. Measure twice (or more!) and drill once!

Here a link to one I put on my 90 XLH went I had it. Its styled after the old indian taillights. Bolts right in place of the stock HD taillight no mods needed.
