View Full Version : Patch Hole in Intake Manifold

Things were going really well. [This can be a bad sign.] I decided on using a short piece [about 1"] of 3/16" brake line with the fluted end for the vacuum nib on the Keihn carb. Drilled an 11/64" hole so the fit would be tight, ground the piece a little so it would go in, tapped it in with some sealer. Oh heck, he said, i put the hole too close to where the carb mounting bolts go. Darn, he said.
Drilled another hole, got the job done. Now i need to patch this extra 11/64" hole in my intake mani.
Ideas: short self tapping screw - nope, it sticks too far into the venturi. Short nut and bolt - nope, disaster if the nut should come loose. Hey, how about just plugging it with some JB Weld?
What do you think. Any other ideas?

I'd go with the self tapper, measure out to be flush then smear a little weld on it.

I agree with Broncodog,if you use the JB weld and it should vibrate loose and fall in then you would be in about the same shape as if the nut came loose.

I would use JB weld but I really wrote to say that your(Broncodog) new photo is disturbing to say the least. Where is the white suit and the begees music.

or try epoxy resin to patch the hole

Mick, Apply a piece of scotch tape to the inside to back up the hole. Apply JB weld to the hole and leave a little proud, kinda like a rivet head. Or countersink the outside a little. I've fixed old JD tractor carbs like this, and one fix is over 20 years old and still holding.
