View Full Version : When will it end!!!
hercengmech 10th November 2006, 09:44 Damn it all!! I just finished a great 1250 kit on a brand new, perfectly good sporty. Now my boss shows me this great looking XR1200. My bank account is cringing as this is written. Oh well, you can't take it with you. Do ya'll think this bike will exceed 100hp with the right pipes, AC and tuning?
roadster 11th November 2006, 07:34 Hit the boss for a raise.

That bike most likely wont hit the USA for at least a year...

Not without cams, head work, carb, etc.
Sorry,:(

hercengmech 11th November 2006, 08:08 Well, I'm in the USAF, so I'll have to hit up my uncle sam for a raise. Maybe I can save diligently for the time being.

Head work and carb? uhhh, if the proto-type specs are true for production it's already making near 90 hp, has heads that will probably be hard to improve much upon AND EFI.
I'm thinking cams, intake and MAYBE exhaust would be enough to push this to/over the 100 hp mark.
But hopefully time will tell.
c pierce 12th November 2006, 00:27 What kev said.
cadiero 12th November 2006, 00:54 There are people posting 100hp dyno's on the new Buell Ulysses with just intake pipe and a modified EFI Map. I would imagine that if this XR1200 is using the .551 cams that the same mod's will achieve the same HP #'s

Do you have a reference for the HP estimate? Did they mention crank or wheel? I know it was only speculation, but I would like to see it first hand.

bentheplumber 12th November 2006, 02:54 well well i say, is the the grass all that green on the other side, i dont think so. dont wish and ponder, build what you want than you don't havve to wonder:)
hercengmech 12th November 2006, 06:43 I heard the 85-95hp and 75tq numbers were rear wheel. I think they'd have to be considering a bone stock XB12R/S is 103 at the crank mid 80s at the rear wheel. Let me rephrase it; it had better be, or I will forget it. I'm sick of HD coming out with these 883Rs. Make something that is as fast as it looks. I know they can do it. Look at the Vrod. It's the shit! Okay, I'll quit bitchin!

I only have what they have published in the press release and in the Enthusiast which traditionally is crank.
But comparing that to what they've done with the Buell 1200 and what we see on this board is where I'm taking my SWAG.

You've got the evidence right there in your post. NO WAY those numbers are rear wheel on the XR when the top-dog 1200 motor they are building is mid-80s at the rear wheel.
Those have to be crank numbers.
Besides, name one other bike they've published rear wheel numbers on in the past decade? (in brochures, press releases or their own mags). It's allways Crank, that's pretty much an industry standard.

<- Regrettably, it never does. The younger you are, the longer you must live with it.
Like malaryia, it never goes away.
I don't make the news, just report it.
