140 tire on 89 xlh chain drive?

Hello my brothers. Im looking to replace my worn out
tires on my 89 hugger. I've asked 2 differnent stealers
:doh I mean dealers and have gotten conflicting answers
to my question. What is the widest tire I can fit
on my stock 89 chain driven sporty with NO mods at all.
Also is the Avon tire worth the extra money over the
Dunlop 401,402,404's? I appreciate all the input. Ride Safe!

A 140 should be no problem. I have a 150 Avon Venom on mine. I had to shim the sprockets a little. The chain just barely clears. I can't imagine going bigger without an offset front sprocket.

To answer the question regarding the better tires.. YES YES YES.. Definatly worth the bucks..

I for one prefer the Metzelers, but avon makes a good tire.

Go to the uquakmeup thread that describes the spacing procedure for you. It works. I have had a 150 for ten years now. Going o 160 when the new swingarm finally gets here.
