View Full Version : Rear Signal Relo - Look at Pics - Opinions?

I mocked up some mounts to move my signals to the layback license plate assembly. The idea is to get rid of the relocation kit that came with the saddlebags so that I can easily R&R the saddlebag brackets while retaining the ability to use my detachables. The stock relocation/detachable setup is a little messy to say the least.

What do you think? Does the new position of the signals make the license plate/taillight area too crowded? "Does this dress make my butt look fat?"

I am confused. Are you going to keep all four lights?? With all four it looks crowded but if you are only gonna use the lights on the plate then I think it looks pretty good.

The other thing is if you get them too close, the lites look like a clown face on the back!!!!! :wonderlan :wonderlan :wonderlan

Sorry for the confusion, I do not intend to use all 4 lights. I just wanted to mock up the new lights without removing the old ones... it's too dang hard to run the wiring on that detachable/relocation setup and I didn't want to take it apart until my level of committment to the project is at it's maximum. Know what I mean?

Thanks for the comment... this is the kind of feedback I'm looking for. Ideally I would have the signals on the same horizontal center as the tail light, but I'm not sure that I could extend the brackets that far down and still have it look right.

Looks pretty good. I'm planning on moving mine this winter - this gives me another idea to keep filed in the gray matter.

Confusion corrected. I would say it looks fine officer!:D

I think the new location looks good, IMO having them in line with the tail light would not work as well.

I think they look fine. I thought I just saw a relocation kit in the JPCycles catalog just last night that relocated the tail lights similar to where your putting them. Although, I believe they end up under the rear tail light as opposed to above the tail light as you have mocked them up. It included a light bar that supported the lights, much like a front auxiliary light bar would be. Obviously, it wouldn't be that one-off touch like yours will be.

I fitted these:

Well, actually I fitted 68617-04, which is the HDI version. They're just plug and play (electrically speaking, you have to drill holes in the fender) on my '05, but probably not on a '97.

I love the looks of this solution... I just refuse to pay $149 for a chrome bar.

Homemade... it's just 3/4" angle iron.

Yeah, it's a bit steep, but I figured I couldn't make anything that'd look that good. It's nice being one part with the turnsignals and the bar all in one piece, and it fits around the tail light neatly.

Hoowasat did this first. There's more info in this thread (scroll down to posts 4 & 7 and later) and this one.

BTW, it's $128.23 at Zanotti.

Not sure I am going to use it, but I have it, just in case.

The housings are part of the bar, so I guess you mean no lenses, bulbs, bulb holders? Presumably those would just transfer from your existing lights? That makes that one heck of a good deal. :smoke

I did the same as Folkie, Its a little exspensive, But looks alot better even with out bags. I thought it was a pain to drill the holes, I measured real good and it still didnt line up very easy, I eneded up with 1/2" holes. lol The bar covered it up good.

You should have seen the lengths I went to to get the holes in the right place! It was worth it in the end though.

You are so correct. The lenses and bulb holders were not included, but will swap out with the stockers.
