View Full Version : First Dyno Run
txsporty 27th November 2004, 22:39 This was the results of the Dyno run I had done today: Max HP-51.1,
Max TQ-47.1 Air/fuel was up and down but not bad as I was told??
Stats:
2003 883XLH
Carb Jetted by Dealer???
Kuryakyn Hypercharger
SEII pipes, with baffles and drilled
Stock Ignition
Is this what a "Taxes Paid" 883XLH should Get???
I'll post the charts as soon as I can get them scanned..
Shu 28th November 2004, 16:54 Yes, that is typical of an '03 883, upper 40's to very low 50's. Thanks for the results and please post the graph when you get a chance.

Thanks for the feedback.
Now I know what the baseline is for my Bike. Next is trying to figure out what the best Bang for my buck will be when I do the 883>1200 upgrade!! I'm looking to get a least 80 Horses out of it??? :D

TXSPORTY, I had my 04 883 dyno'd yesterday the results were
horspower=49.2
torgue=46.8
cv carb 45 slow jet
stock main?
SE high flow breather
CS slip on's with baffles
stock ignition
the tech said it was "perfect"
I don't know much about what the numbers should be!
txsporty 24th January 2005, 05:09 The "numbers" will vary from bike to bike, depending on tuning, etc.!!!!
Did you get a air/fuel readout??

txsporty, no on the air/fuel readout, didn't know I was supposed to or thought it would come with it, first time to do this, so still learning

Tx..80 hp means heads/head work, and cams with the conversion. Get ready to shell out the big bucks

They should have included it!! Helps to see if your Carb is right!!! :D

I Know!!! :yikes My 1250 conversion is on hold for just that reason!! :(
I'm going to do the HD Conversion first, about $700.00 from Chicago HD!!!
Later on I'll be doing the 1250 with Stage 3 heads, but it'll wait until I get another Scoot!!! :D

txsporty,
You can get fairly close to your 80 hp request with the same conversion I did. It's a good for bang for the buck conversion and should get you mid 70's figures(at the rear wheel) with the stock headpipes and slipons like it looks like you are running. I'm sure there are a lot of other sportsters out there with more power (who have paid much more for it), but this is still a blast to ride and has plenty of power for most.

I'm going to do the same conversion as you've done. I have everything ordered from Chicago HD. Just waiting for it's arrival!! The only thing different is I'm going to be running the Bassani Pro Street Pipes..
I'm running the Bassani Pro Street Pipes with the baffles In now and I'm getting some popping from the exhaust when I get out of the Throttle?? Do you know what might be causing this??

Shu, what did you to get onto the 70hp range?
suerto 27th January 2005, 09:00 883 w/
SE a/c
dynojet kit
cycle shak slip ons w/o baffles
= 55hp/42tq
then,
HQ 1200 kit ($1700) - they do offer a cheaper conversion
(HQ reworked my 883 head and supplied all parts- pistons, rings, gaskests..)
(HQ ignition)
= 80hp/80tq
still need cams - ($350)
still need thunderheader - ($400)
= (approx) 100hp/95tq
just to give you an idea... I dont know what weight pistons Chicago harley is offering, but I recommend you check that out... It will make a difference. My buddy had the local stealership punch out his 883R and it vibrates real bad as compared to the lighter wiseco pistons that were used on mine. I read up on it for 6 mos before I did mine, would've let the stealership do it had I not researched it.
Just FYI, you can get alot of info off of the sportster.org tech pages.. check it out..
Or if you really want bang for your buck... do the Nallins 1450...

It could be just the design of the pipe/baffle, or you could be running a tad rich.
Shu 27th January 2005, 15:50 Shu, what did you to get onto the 70hp range?
I did the basic 883/1200 conversion keeping the stock 883 heads. I used the SE 883/1200 10:1 compression reverse dome pistons, SE 1200 cylinders, SE bolt in cams and HD gasket kit. Total parts cost including the SE exhaust gaskets and everything, was around $834.00. I run a Thunderheader with this combo and it works really well. I ended up with mid 70's on both torque and HP with TQ over 70 ft lbs from 3400 to 5200 rpms.

I think your a bit optimistic thinking that a change of cams and exhaust pipes will take you all the way from 80rwhp to 100rwhp on a 1200cc motor!
suerto 31st January 2005, 11:03 might be a little optimistic, I'm getting these fancy thoughts from seening dyno sheets of bikes that have gone from stock exhaust to thunderheaders and stock cams to andrews N8... wishful thinking, I guess we'll see once its done and I dyno it again.
