At one of my Navy reunions, the remaining crew of the original USS Fletcher (I served on the Spruance class fletcher), showed up and after the ceremonies several people gathered at a local watering hole and the sea stories started flying. I sat with my mouth open in awe at some of the things I heard.

Not to nitpick, but to be accurate, because these were truly great men even without the awards.
They received The Congressional Gold Medal.
The Medal of Honor is different and never has the word Congressional as part of it. Congress will tell you different I guess... :p
There are now 2 movies about them.
The Tuskegee Airmen 1995 and now Red Tales 2012
As a Group, they all received the Congressional Medal of Honor (http://www.tuskegee.edu/sites/www/Uploads/files/About%20US/Airmen/TuskegeeAirmenCGMCeremony.pdf), 60 years later by then President Bush.
And to top it all off, they've made a movie about them! Good for them!!

I've had the privilege of hearing several of the Tuskegee Airmen speak and have spoken with a few as well. The amount of effort they all made to fight for their right to fight for their country is amazing.

Its not a Camaro, its KITT. And behind the Aston is a DeLorean from Back to the future 3. All the way back there is a white Lotus Esprit, another Bond car like the Aston.

Camaro to the left?
Look at the dashboard... it sweeps back in the middle for the TV monitors to face the driver..."this looks like Darth Vader's bathroom"...
The yellow looks like the roofline from a Mazda Rotary Wagon. The convertible in front of KITT is hard to tell what it is... Perhaps a Ferrari Daytona?

Yes,also I believe the army truck far right was from Indiana Jones and the yellow car at top left was from a British show Only Fools and Horses.

Its a B-25. A B-17 is a tail dragger, so the wing would not be level sitting on the ground. Also, the "bumps" on the cowl around the engine are the exhaust ports. The B-17 does not have those.
http://www.reocities.com/snjdrvr/b17park.jpg
Also, the way the wing between the engine and fuselage slopes down is more of a B-25 thing
A B-24 sits much lower to the ground and the landing gear is a little more outboard

I'm just curious as to why there seems to be an exhaust pipe running down the box when it appears to be running headers right off the manifolds?
It's a sweet @$$ ride regardless.

Several years ago, I went shopping for an Escort (A car not a companion) and came home with a Mustang. The wife was pissed. She was even more pissed when the thing threw a rod. I should have done more research on Mustangs to find out certain years have a shallow pan and by the time you find out you are a quart low on oil, it is too late, and you need to rebuild the engine. Mine has been sitting for 6 months now since I am not investing that much money into it.

No Prius here, those hybrids are for pussies. :laugh
I was merely saying that not all hybrids are for pussies and/or hippies.
But if they made a full size pickup with a Volt-like (which is similar to the giant trucks, dozers or trains) diesel hybrid for a reasonable price, I'd absolutely get one.
In the meantime, I'll keep driving my Sierra with a 5.3 V8 and a Mack with a 12L straight 6.

I question the train being a hybrid. I know the diesel runs a generator which powers the electric motors, but that is not the same as the Prius and other Hybrid autos where they also have batteries and the engine only kicks in when its needed.
I guess it depends on the definition of a hybrid ...
Quebeker
3rd February 2012, 13:48
The train is an hybrid and the Chevy Volt is the same type of hybrid. The vehicle is powered by the electric motor with the combustion engine being a generator.
The Prius or Honda Insight, Ford Fusion or Focus are different. Their combustion engines are assisted by an electric motor.

My opinion, the electric only cars are useless as an only car. The range and length of time to charge are way too restrictive to where you can go. If there was a way to standardize the battery pack and make it easily removable so you could just pull in a dealer or a "charge" station and swap your dead battery for a fresh one, it could make sense. And it would be easier and cheaper to do that than build an hydrogen supply network.
Hydrogen cars. Do you want hydrogen stored at 10000PSI under your ass? I dont. And there may a be a lot of Hydrogen on this planet but not naturally by itself and it takes lots of energy and $$$ to get it. And do you want hydrogen stored at 10000PSI under your ass?
Hybrids like the Prius? Why bother when a Corolla gets the same fuel mileage unless you want to feel less guilty about the environment and/or look good in the eyes of the greenies?
The Volt is a step in the right direction. Make the generator a diesel and it would be better.
And put diesels in everything. At a reasonable price. I would have got a diesel in my pick-up if it didnt require me to step up to an HD model and spend an extra 11-15K.

Are electric cars better for the environment or is the push to get us less dependent on foreign oil? Is nuclear or coal produced energy less corrosive to our environment? Batteries/storage cells don't/won't last forever. How do we dispose of them? That energy saving lightbuld they want us all to use not only will ruin your eyes but the cfl's all contain Mercury.

Models like the Tesla Roadster get ~250 miles on a charge and take about 8 hours to recharge. For me that is more than enough unless I am making a road trip, then I would not be driving a 2 seater anyway. Of course if you drive the thing like you are competing in a race, you will get way less range.
I am with you on the hydrogen models. I feel nervous that the FJ40 I have has the gas tank under the passenger seat...
I test drove a prius for a couple of days and got really poor gas mileage. It is mainly due to the roads I drive (lots of hills and curves).
If they can clean up the diesel emissions I might consider one. They have come a long way, but they still stink and foul up the air.

There is a slight difference between a hybrid prius, and diesel powered generators that run electric motors to combat economic investment vs horsepower out... it is just not feasible to make engines and transmissions strong enough, yet small enough to move a oversized earthmover or a locomotive...

Yep, a 288GTO. Only 272 car produced in 1984 and 85.
Its got a 400hp 2.8L twin turbo V8 and was the 1st production car to hit 300km/h.
When new it sold for about $85K. Now, if you find one for sale, bring at least half a mil.

The Ferrari GTO is definately a cool looking car.
The 1st GTO was a Ferrari, the 250GTO, 39 built between 62 and 64. Now to get one of those, you'll need to find someone willing to sell his and bring at least $10 millions.
http://www.mycarheaven.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/Ferrari-250-GTO-2.jpg
Next was Pontiac, starting in 64 as an option package on the Tempest then becoming its own model based on the Tempest and LeMans and then ending being an option package again the Ventura (twin to the Nova).
Then Ferrari made the 288GTO.
Pontiac imported a Holden Monaro and named it the GTO for the US from 2004 to 2006.
Now Ferrari has the 599GTO, 599 of them will be made. About $450000, 660HP, 202mph.

If I may get back to the Ferrari GTO for a second, one just sold for Ł20.2m (http://www.topgear.com/uk/car-news/classic-ferrari-250-gto-sells-for-20-million-2012-02-07). Im not sure how much that is in US money but that a sh!tload of $$$.
All 3 Ferrari GTOs are in this episode of TopGear, in the 3rd segment.

Not sure. It looks like this was taken as a rescue was in progress since there is an orange line coming down the wing.
Got this from Facebook. It looks like this may have been in Brazil

Those aren't handcuffs. That is a figure 8 that is used in rappelling, hence the Orange line.

Bacon and Egg Savory Cupcakes Recipe
INGREDIENTS:
16 slices bacon
1 can (16.3 oz) Pillsbury® Grands!® Homestyle refrigerated buttermilk biscuits
8 eggs
Salt and pepper, if desired
DIRECTIONS:
1. Heat oven to 350°F. In 10-inch skillet, cook bacon over medium heat about 4 minutes or until cooked but not crisp, turning once. (It will continue to cook in the oven.) Set aside.
2. Spray 8 jumbo muffin cups or 8 (6-oz) glass custard cups with cooking spray. Separate dough into 8 biscuits. Place 1 biscuit in each muffin cup, pressing dough three-fourths of the way up sides of cups. Place 2 bacon slices in each biscuit cup, and crack an egg over each. Season with salt and pepper.
3. Bake 25 to 30 minutes or until egg whites are set. Run a small knife around cups to loosen. Serve immediately. Enjoy <3

Captured: America in Color from 1939-1943
Posted Jul 26, 2010
These images, by photographers of the Farm Security Administration/Office of War Information, are some of the only color photographs taken of the effects of the Depression on America’s rural and small town populations. The photographs are the property of the Library of Congress and were included in a 2006 exhibit Bound for Glory: America in Color.
